They all speak English. I only use this level of employee for simple titles right now and they vary from ok to great at it. Graphics are definitely not part of the deal, those guys seem to run around $200 per week but I use the only one I have on staff for my own stuff.

At the rates listed expect pure grunt work, repetitive tasks and the like. Anything extra is a bonus because I'm supposed to pay more for those skills.

1. The $20/hr assumes that the fundamental assumption of 30 seconds a thumb is realistic. I don't believe it is... I asked you to show me how that can be accomplished but you're not willing to.. 2. Don't really pay "gruntworkers" as I automate the majority of things.

3. Depends on how you look at it. $1000 and getting crappy results would be a rip off for example... Generally however, when you go with really cheap labour and the task is much bigger than what's been paid, those guys almost always end up disappearing on you.. There's been a shit load of threads on here that show that clearly. So in the end, it's usually less likely that you'll be ripped off if you're paying a more realistic rate... In this case, see #1.

1: Is 20 dollars per hour just screaming "screw me over"?
2: How much WOULD you pay per hour to gruntworkers.
3: Is there any guarantee that someone who gets paid a 1000 dollars is less likely to screw you over than someone who gets paid 300 dollars (20+ dollars an hour).

Now please stop with the if this and if that and assuming this and assuming that...just answer the questions man. It really isn't that hard.

It doesn't matter if making the screengrab takes 20,30,40 or 50 seconds...$20/hr is $20/hr and is good pay in these days. It's computer work, clicking a bit. If it takes more hours, I don't see a problem. You just charge more hours.

I don't really think the $300 is unrealistic or insanely low. I know people that will gladly make blog posts or descriptions etc for $10-15 an hour.

Even if It would calculate to $15 an hour for the screens he would still be making more than minimum wage for a minimum wage job IMO.

It was a flat rate job... 1400 video screen grabs sharpened and cropped and "You have to do this manually obviously as i only want perfect grabs"... The guy quoted something like $250-$270... Sounds like the end deal was something like 900 thumbs for $300.

Edit, that would mean he would work 27 hours on it. Bullshit ofcourse. So the worst case scenario would've been 12/13 dollars an hour.

I answered the questions... Context is everything... Building a missile defense system and paying $20/hr screams "screw me over"... Paying $20/hour to have a kid cut your lawn doesn't.

You're stuck on this $20/hr thing but that's based on your point of view that it takes 30 seconds or so to do what you wanted... That's what this is really about, not the $20/hr etc. You can try and deflect and make it about something else but you should do that with someone else. As I said.. If I can see that it in fact does take 30 seconds or so to do what you requested, then I have no problem saying I was wrong.. But you're avoiding that and trying to make it about something else tells me you have no interest in showing me how I'm wrong.

You can find some very decent grunt workers on oDesk for around $3 to $5 per hour. The advantage being that you're protected by a system which has dispute resolution procedures in place.

In some parts of the world the average monthly wage is as little as a few hundred dollars a month, therefore it is possible to get quite good workers at low cost.
