How frequently do you buy a new keyboard?

I mean cleaning it - taking out every button could be a big job, or some of you do?

Logitech Illuminated Keyboard <--- best keyboard ever.

I actually got 8 spares in case they ever stop making them.

I used to repair computers and accessories,If you want to make your keyboards like new, unplug and spray fantastic on it use a soft toothbrush to scrub and finally use air to blow it off, you can use it right away but make sure you blew it off good

Never. I have an old school HP with the big buttons and lots of space between keys that fits me like a glove. All the new ones now days are those smaller key ones with less space between keys or curved ergonomic.

I suppose you can find anything but why throw money away.

As long as all keys work I'd much rather clean it than buy another.

Good advice Spunky.

The keys are similar to what you'd find on a laptop but they travel a bit further when you press them. So more comfortable than a normal keyboard and more accurate than a laptop. Took me a day to get used to it, but now I work faster on a logitech illuminated keyboard than on any other keyboard I've ever tried.

btw: the lighting is optional.

Keyboards are fairly inexpensive, so I would typically just buy a new one.

How often depends on a lot of factors.

My co worker bought the warcraft version of this keyboard for 100 bucks. I thnk there is a plain version for like 70 bucks.

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/...ming-keyboard/

The keys come off which are useful for gamers who want to switch between key sets but also make it very easy to clean.
There are some other cool features listed in the article as well.

I have spilled soda all over my keyboard so many times it's not even funny...still works! Also spilled an entire soda down my old CRT monitor...stopped working for a day but then started working again, guess the soda dried.

Yep .... I never believed it - but tried it a an experiment with an old Logitech that did not owe anybody anything, and HOLY HANNAH if it did not come out perfectly clean like new, and after thoroughly drying, it worked like new too!!

It has to go vertical in the TOP SHELF and DO NOT USE DETERGENT or heat dry setting ... and make sure it is dried thoroughly before plugging back in. (3-5 days should suffice)

We do our office (desktop) keyboards about once every 4 months now ... and usually replace them every second year anyways ...

Keyboards are extremely low voltage I/O devices, so liquids will not arc the circuitboards. Wash it and dry it thoroughly, and you're be good to go!

Of course its best that you have a "spare" keyboard to use while the dishwasher cleaned keyboard is drying ...

I always keep a few spare keyboards and mice around ... as downtime is costly, and its not always convenient to run out to Staples when a keyboard or mice decides to go to heaven ...

People look at me like I'm batshit insane when I tell them to do this. I have a great keyboard that I love, but it gets dirty. So into the dishwasher it goes.
