How bad is Boost Mobile? Smart phone questions.. ..

My woman FINALLY got a damn job, so I FINALLY let her get a smart phone .. but the only affordable unlimited service for droid phones is from boost .. they are telling me that they are on the Sprint network and won't slow her down no matter how much data she uses

They also told me that we can enable the mobile hotspot feature for $50 which is a really great feature, I think (they said boost "hides" the feature, but it's available on any sprint line of service. they also told me that instead of hiding it they should have left it in and charged for it, but their idiocy is our gain) .. can I do it myself somehow? I use to do "hack the razr" things so could I probably figure that out?

The only decent phone I could afford was the Samsung Galaxy Prevail (Boost wants $150 for it, I got one for $85) .. it is only 800mhz single core and limited to 3mbps and doesn't have the oled screen .. but it is a pretty decent phone, right?

I have never had a smart phone and don't know shit about them

I use pageplus which is on verizon network and cheap.. $39.95 Unlimited Talk and Text + 20MB Data and $55 Unlimited Talk + Text/Picture Msg, 500 MB Data. Can't use a droid phone I don't think but best smart phone I've found to use on it is Omnia I and II which is what I use. If you decide to go through them let me know and I can activate it for ya for free (some resellers might tell you no since it's a smartphone and verizon has blocked them via pageplus because so many verizon customers were jumping ship.)

Yes, Boost is the same network as Sprint. It's a Sprint brand. The Android phones, including the Prevail I do all of my posting from, gets the same coverage and as anyone paying three times as much on a Sprint "old farts" contract plan.

Some of the Boost phones are on what used to be the Nextel network. That's for certain unsmart phones. That network isn't as good.

The thing that bugs me about the phone is the limited internal memory. Get apps2sd. After you update a few of the included apps, you'll want to use apps2ROM to replace the outdated copy in ROM.

Yes with Android you can easily turn on mobile hotspot and tethering using any of several apps from the market.

It's also simple to root this phone IF you do so before the system updates. I'm assuming that out of the box it won't have the latest updates. Once rooted, you can easily replace the whole OS with cyanogenmod or similar. I run a third party mod that's just a slightly tweaked version of the factory ROM, which mostly just saves a few MB of internal memory.

No, they don't. Sprint branded service can roam on Verizon, etc. Virgin and Boost are limited to sprint-owned towers. They do not roam.

My brother, you should've come to me. You know the Blackberry Mafia got you. Checkout my site: http://www.SwampPeopleWireless.com .

Under the prepaids, h20 wireless is an MVNO for ATT. Just search the site through all of the prepaids. If you have a question about them, hit me up.

That's interesting. In five years of having Boost I've never noticed that. I did notice the old iden network, the former Nextel towers, didn't have the very best coverage. Now that I'm on the Sprint cdma network I've been happy with the coverage.

I have Boost. I love the lower price, I was paying almost $80/month for what I get with Boost now for $45/month and after a year and a half or something it's down to $35/month. The only downside is that they use the sprint network and you can't roam anywhere, ever - even if you want to and would be willing to pay. I drove through Montana and had 0 service the whole way. Their "No roaming charges" really means "You can't roam, even if you pay us".
