Who here have used DICKMANS DESIGN? Any information?

Who here has used DICKMANS DESIGN? I don't care about their portfolio I mean personally who has bought and paid for designs there.

And truthfully how did the experience go?

I've used them a few times. They may be a bit pricey, but it's always been worth it to me. They over deliver in my experience.

I used them a couple of years ago before they had that downsizing...They seemed great, best design company that I've ever used by far and develivered some great work.

I've tried contacting them since, like 3 months ago on email/ICQ/thru their website for some more work and could never get a response...

Good luck!

I did.

Didn't like the experience.

- too expensive
- you can't talk directly to the designer, you talk to some supervisor and he relays your requests to the designers.
- it was a WordPress skin, and they did it in the most fucked up way (code-wise) and it still had many bugs after they were done.

Overall, it was a pain to go through. Definitely not worth the hype/money.

Don't remember now, it was a couple years ago.

But yeah, the communication was a problem. I had to contact the "contact" guy for every small thing so he would relay it to the designers. And it was a bitch.

They also put some disclaimer in your code (designed by bla bla) that you aren't allowed to remove, or something like that.

You paid for the design and you aren't allowed to remove some disclaimer in your code? Fuck that!

hmmmmmmmmmmm i dont want to post what is going on here yet, but lets just say it is not looking good.

i had a similar experience in the top one, especially on a rush order which made it worst. anyway im hoping they contact me soon, but its not looking well.

how long to you normally wait for a response before it is "bad"? on top of it they are supposed to be professional.

I've also found that a while back when I worked on some design they did, they did the css a bit 'funny'. I don't know if that's the case nowadays.

Care to share what you paid for each site? I have a figure in my head on what I'd charge you for that quality... lets see if they marry up.

Wanted them to do a TGP design for a large site years ago, they went through their "process" of sitting down and talking about the project in a meeting in their office by themselves, then came back and told us what what unique features they could offer, such as draggable thumbs to add to favorites, etc..After spending $1600 with them to "talk", they did not even have one pixel completed, so we ditched them and wasted the time / money.

There are better designers for much cheaper.

Its a one page reality tour with join and members header from what i can see.
IM geueesing you got graphics html/css.... backend was your own problem?

For design html/css.. the first one would take me 3 days $900.. each subsequent site would take me 2 days $600.... And you might get a discount for bulk.

Ya know im not trying to blow anyones candle out to make mine look brighter. BUt im super curious as to know how much of the project cost is going into the designers pocket (the person with the talent/skill).. and how much your pissing up the wall to get some smooth talkin salesman?... HOw much of your money is actualy being spent on time on your project? ..... Ive just made up an imaginary company called dickzanna and im a super duper design megaforce. But if you look around ...Your soon see your spending about 30%-75% just on dickzanna experience. The product itself is of average quality and doesnt justify the price.

Dickman's designed extremefeeds.com, which I'm very happy with.

They're expensive, the communication isn't the best, and dealing with them requires a significant time investment. You also have to give them very detailed specs, a process I absolutely detest. However... if you actually go thru the process they can turn out a product that very few others can match. I suspect that the skill level of their designers varies pretty wildly, and you don't get the top guys right off the bat. If you outright refuse your first design, you'll notice that the second version you get is light years better than the first.

by significant time investment, would you consider them not responding to your mails for 2-3 weeks a long enough time?

this was my experience with them - i learned a lesson, i will never hire a designer again where I am not in direct contact with the designer doing my projects. they told me I was micro-managing the project too much - which was true - but only because I wasn't thrilled with the direction they were going and was afraid that design was what i would end up with. and that's what i did end up with. 2200 dollars for a one page design.

Sad to see this hasn't been resolved yet.
Sorry to hear that Meta, I hope you get something for your troubles.

I had mentioned these guys in threads before just going by the looks of their site but I will think twice about it now.

Best of luck

didnt i end up fixing the code on that one?

from the theme you showed me and the price they did it for, i really didnt make sense.

could spend much less and get a better result.

thats the thing with these design "firms"

like adultdesign.com for example they have to cover all their expenses, support, design people, coders, why you pay so much.

the actual guy that was doing some of their blog designs, you could go right to him directly for $150 but if you got it through adultdesign it was in the thousands.

pretty big markup.
