Model payment methods

How is everyone paying their models nowadays? I've always paid everyone in cash after the shoot, but considering the technological advances we have today I just hate having to deal with cash payments; especially if it's a higher priced shoot and I have to have a large amount of cash on location. Anybody have any success using electronic payment methods with models?

Why wouldn't you write them checks? After hundreds of nude shoots, I think I've only paid cash like three times ever and one of those times was a British girl who was literally going to the plane from the shoot, like the shuttle picked her up at the shoot location.

Most girls know better then to accept a check. Creepy photogs just cancel the checks. There was an article about it where I live not too long ago about some dude who hires girls for like 5k (very overpriced for the area) and then cancelled checks.

When I was shooting heavily I started paying by cash. Reason ... The girls would go down the street to my local bank and cash the checks right after the shoot. Imagine 2-3 girls a week dressed like models dress after a shoot, all walking into the bank cashing checks for the same amount. I got tired of the funny looks by the tellers and business manager.

.

Most people don't trust checks nowadays (unless it's a bank check). And checks become a problem when doing shoots with talent in various countries; as I so often do. I need a trusted payment option that will be accepted anywhere in the world.

I always pay by business check so I can keep a copy of the cashed check, this way there is a paper trail and if a model ever "changes her mind" I have the cashed check along with the model releases to prove she knew what she was doing.

I pay by cash if I'm getting a great rate from the model. Otherwise, I pay by check or via the payroll process.

Get them a moneybookers account with a mastercard, then they can withdraw the money instantly

Always paid by cash. Girls didn't always have bank accounts, the model release served as a receipt and we got them to sign a receipt on the day. Loads of girls do a few shoots and then quit, well that's the way it used to be.

If you don;t like the game, don't play it.

If you shoot in the US and you run a BUSINESS you need to pay by company check.
If you are a scumbag...that sucks for everyone. Especially you.

We used to pay by cash until accountant said we have to pay by company check or we cannot deduct cost of shoots...if you get audited, how do you prove you pay the model...for example.

We advise the girls we cannot use content without proof of payment. Most did not know that. Those who cancel checks are risking a warrant.
If its a big pay amount we will sometimes pay a little in cash and rest in check.

Our bank caters specifically to Hollywood entertainment biz...I have taken girls to our bank so they can cash.
Trust me, they are more than grateful and we often get great new content from a model who is happy to be working with a straight company.

It is illegal for shooters to shoot, cancel check and use content. Any models on this board should be aware of this. Outside US, IDK.

I had to take a "photographer" to court for some of our Polish models who had been paid by cheque and found it had been stopped, he sent more cheques which were refused by by his bank. It took 6 months to get their money.

I understand why models trust cash, there are some shitty people in the World.

Those are great ways.... I like the way you think. You can sit with model at computer at end of shoot and pay her...and she knows shes getting paid. Nice.

Most of the large cam programs pay through Payoneer. Payoneer offers payments to prepaid debit MasterCards, bank transfers worldwide (much cheaper than wires, up to $10.95 per transfer, and as low as $5.95) and payments to local ewallets.

I would be more than happy to give you more information if you're interested. You can contact me directly at taliakl at payoneer.com.

We have always used checks but we also have had a fairly long history with the girls and agents so no one has any concerns about getting paid.

Yeah, I was thinking about the possibility of Paypal and the like, but if the model doesn't have a bank account (or a pc... even though it's 2012) that can be an issue. I like the Visa/Mastercard payment idea. The only thing with that option is that it's more of a hassle to get the money off the card and into your bank if you do have a bank account. But maybe that's not as big of a deal as I think. So card payouts seem to be the best alternative right now. I'll also have to check out Payoneer and see what they offer.

I pay models by check as soon as the shoot is over. I like to get the physical canceled checks with the model's actual ink endorsement back from the bank in my statement every month.

Whatever you use, keep proof of payment on file for just as long as you keep the model release. The release may prove that you PROMISED to pay them, but not that you DID pay them. If the model release mentions payment, as it probably should (exchange of consideration) it would later be ruled invalid if the judge believed you didn't pay as agreed.

Checks and checks only. I've never had model complain about getting paid by check. Some have had concerns about cashing a check without their own bank account and I have taken many models to the bank after shoots to make sure they got paid.

A few reasons for this, even though some have already been said:

1: Proof that payment was made. A model can always claim that you never paid her the cash or that you claimed one amount on the paperwork but paid another or never paid at all. Receipts can be forged but a canceled check from the bank will be on record with the bank and can easily be retrieved should there ever be a question.

2: Accounting. It just makes sense.

3: A business check tells a model you actually run a legit business. If you don't have a business checking account, which a lot of "producers" do not, you most likely are not a legit business.

4: 3 minutes after the model leaves and you discover your releases, wardrobe, toys, cameras, etc... are missing, you can stop payment before the check is cashed. This sort of thing has happened to me and a lot of other producers I know.

5: It's another way of confirming the model's identity. Not only have you checked the model's ID but so has the bank. This will go a long way in covering your ass should a model come back later claiming she was under age.

6: No lawyer has ever told me to pay a model in cash but several have told me to pay by company check.

7: Cash on hand is a liability in a world filled with those who have questionable intent. All it takes is one model to tell a friend that she saw a pile of cash in your studio and now you're a target for robbery.

I think there is a lot of models and agents who want to be paid in cash because they want in Euros and not the local currency and also do not wantt o put it through their books.

Just to clarify, there is a clear trail in our cases as well. I say cases because since we pay through cards AND through bank transfers, it's all on record - we can show exactly what you transferred to whose card and that it arrived on their card.

The bank transfer and card are two separate methods right now - you don't transfer from the card to a bank, though it's something we are looking into (if we get enough requests for something, we definitely look into it). Anyway, I'd be more than happy to talk at your convenience. My ICQ is also in my signature.

We do bank transfers too - and they are genearlly a lot cheaper than wires, especially in European countries (but not exclusively). Generally our transfers are up to $10.95.
