can't deny that Rolex make some pretty damn good watches. Prices are out of range for me safe to say!

I like Omega and Breitling personally.

superocean 44 ftw ;)

I have had a Rolex for many years. They definitely do hold value. They are also an amazing piece of mechanical engineering, but sadly even the best traditional mechanism does not keep time quite as well as a $2 Casio digital watch can these days. It loses about a minute every month or two. Not that it's a big deal, but it surprised me when I bought it. When I got mine cellphones weren't as prevalent, now I find I rarely wear mine because I already have the time on my phone along with a lot of other functionality.

I have a tag Monaco and a Jaeger. Wear the tag everyday and the jaeger only when the tag is in for service.

I bought got a 1,200 watch about 5 years ago and saw that it was available online for like 200 bucks last year. That's why I want to get something that will hold value or just a watch for less than $100. I really want a rolex though if I can find the right price and a model I like.

Maybe pre-owned is a better deal with good value?

Personally I've found that unless you spend over $6k for a watch, and keep the original box and certification, you will lose money really fast on a watch. Over $6k seems to hold value pretty well.

Having said that I never look at watches as an investment. I have some very very expensive ones, and some really cheap ones. I just get ones that I like, without worrying about resale. I have a Ulysse Nardin Blue Wave that I love, but I also have a fossel that I thought was cool, and everything in between, so....

I used to own a Tag S/EL .... but somebody liked it more than I did while playing beach volleyball in Wasaga Beach (was in the toe of my shoe behind my socks ... the thief got a good pair of NIKE cross-trainers too!!)

I bought a stainless steel Movado with the insurance, and pocketed the rest.

The most expensive watch I currently own is a stainless steel 22 Jewel SEIKO Chrono Automatic - 100 Seasons Montréal Canadiens commemorative watch. It is #0699 of only 6720 made (6720 was the number of games the Habs played in 100 years), and was a birthday present 2 years ago from my wife.

A Rolex watch is great sign of initial success.. its a standard trophy of achievement, a world wide recognized symbol distinguishing you from the average wage earner... As you climb up the ladder of success, you need to step the watch game...........

Right now I am in the market for an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore.. rose gold or survivor.. anyone else?

I have quite a few watches, rolex, breitling and an audemars piguet. The watch I like and wear the most is a $100.00 fossil.

Judging a man's level of success by his wristwatch is foolish. Plenty of phonies out there with nice watches.

I'm more impressed by a guy I know is loaded and wears a modest watch.

Just got my first Tissot and love it so far.

so you think less of a person if he wears a nice watch? yeah that makes sense...

I tend to get to know someone better before I make that call.

How do you know he is loaded? I was asked once why I had bought a Rolex. I told him that it was too hard to bring the BMW into the bar.

Blinging up a bit to pick up sluts is more fun then it sounds. I was not adverse to it when i was single.

You answered your own question, watches is not for telling time. Its an accesory, pretty much the only one for a man. I own a watch and when I need to look up the time I still usually take out my mobile phone. Itsnot for telling time.

I think everyone here realizes they arent an investment in the same way a car isnt an investment.

But then again if you could sell your car 5 years later for 50%-90% (in the case of a properly maintained rolex)of the value of what you paid for it, or you could sell your other car for 25-50%(or in the case of out of style watch, 10-25% ?), which would you prefer?

They maybe hold their value but you are buying retail and selling wholesale so you are going to take a 30-50% shave.

Like the guy above, I bougth one when porn was so easy and now I wish I had the cash. I wear it about twice a year.

Like I said, BUY ON EBAY there are plenty of distressed assets there. I bought my first watch at a ben bridge 10 years ago, now I just buy on ebay. Dont buy retail and you wont have a problem with overpaying.

and so what, if you take it off, wind it when you put it back on, or buy a watch winder if you are too lazy.

Its jewelry not a time piece, thats just a bonus.

I actually own 2, A stainless Submariner (that I bought from a great friend of everyone here ) and a 2 tones Yachtmaster... LOVE them

This is actually the cheapest watch you can buy. Few will worth more few years after you bought them...

You spend 200 on any watch and 3 years after it's worth next to nothing... You invest 10k on a Rolex and few years later, it's worth 12-13k if you took good care of it... WCS it's still worth 10k

Just my

Rolex's are popular, Jaeger Lecoultre is excellent as well.

If you're going to invest a significant amount of money into a watch buy one that holds value. Rolex is a good example of this, Jaeger Lecoultre also hold value. Something like a Luminor by Panerai also holds value well.

Something like a Patek Philippe in some cases appreciates in value. If your going to drop a lot of money on a watch makes sure it will maintain it's value, that way in a few years when your style changes you at least can sell it for something to buy your next one.

I have a Rolex it is a 1981 Presidential with Onyx Face and 18k Diamond bezel. I worked hard for it and glad I have it. It does make a difference in the way people react around me. Normally if I rolled into a store the sales people look at me and go on with whatever they were playing on their phone, but as soon as they see my Rolex they totally change their tune. And it happens everywhere we go, I guess crooked dudes on scooters aren't supposed to have any money?
