After all those jokes about Mitt Romney putting his dog in a carrier on the roof of his car, now the joke is on President Obama.

It is not a "man bites dog story." It is a future president eats dog story. No, not 'first dog, Bo.'

A conservative website, The Daily Caller, dredged up an old quote from President Obama's memoir, Drams From My Father, about his diet as a boy in Indonesia.

"And away from the dinner table I was introduced to dog meat (tough), snake meat (tougher) and roasted grasshopper (crunchy)."

Now, Romney supporters could say "At least I didn't eat my dog."

Overnight hash tag "ObamaDogRecipes" became a twitter sensation. It included recipes like "Golden Fried Retriever," "Chicken Poodle Soup," "Eggs Rover Easy," and "Pug Chops."

One conservative blogger said: "The menu of doggie delicacies kept expanding by the minute."

That blogger contributed a 4-course meal: "Great Danish, Beagle with lox and cream cheese, collie-flower and German Shepperd pie."

Gleeful Romney supporters fired off jokes:

"What does Obama call a dog riding on the roof of a car? Fast food."

"What does Barack Obama call a dog show? An international buffet."

Even the campaign got into the act. weeks ago, top Obama aid David Axelrod tweeted a photo of Bo riding with the president in his limo with the caption: "How loving owners transport their dogs."

Now a Romney advisor has retaliated with a revised caption, "In hindsight, a chilling photo."

Mitt Romney himself commented on it: "I think this campaign is gonna ultimately be about jobs not dogs."

Maybe that will ultimately be true, but on this day it was a "dog-eat-dog campaign."

Moose closes her story by saying "'I'd take the roof of Mitt Romney's car over the roof of Barack Obama's mouth and day. Already, we are feeling overstuffed with a leg of lab and rin tin tin tartar, not to mention, takeout from the Boston terrier market.

Nothing wrong with dog meat.

Cows, chickens, dogs, deer, snake, rabbit... all the same. You're eating an animal. It's just some people have emotional attachments to dogs and cats, as Indians do to cows. But you don't stop eating cow because it upsets Indians. That would be absurd. So same with your dog.

My dad ate dog when he was a worker in England in the 60s... the guys at the barracks always had trouble sleeping due to the neighbours yapping dog, one day he comes back from the factory and someone was handing sandwiches, he asked what it was made of and they said "yap yap" with a smile. No more trouble sleeping.

Depending on the set up.. no. Dogs ride in the back of pick-up trucks all the time.. and while I cant say for sure.. i would doubt it was just an open cage. Most likely an enclosed pet carrier.

I've had plenty of dogs, and they all loved riding in some situation where they were out in the wind... back of a truck, head out the window, even sitting on the tank of my motorcyle, (which had no fairing), and it never mattered what the weather was. I'm sure the dog in the carrier was loving it, or they would have brought him inside.

This whole thing is just silly, and if you can't see it for the political hackery that it is, then you are just too lost in the party system IMHO.

I dunno. There were reports of their dog puking and shitting itself and them washing it with a hose then hitting the road again. When they arrived, the dog ran away immediately never to be seen again.

Of course our little dog always loved riding in the car even though like all dogs it was freaked out at first. But then she'd stick her head out the window and enjoy the breeze.

I agree. I don't like Romney at all and for all kinds of reasons, but I have to agree that Romney's dog issue is done with.

If we believe everything that has been said (and he never flip-flopped on it), the Dog road in a kennel that was on top of the car, and did it all the time. The dog ate turkey that day. It was a long trip.

It's entirely possible that the dog just got sick, and thats that.

Even if Romney is not a dog lover, I'm sure the rest of his family, especially the kids, were.

There are many more important things to criticize Romney for then this stupid dog issue. Time to move on.
