If I was Zimmerman, I would have understood immediately that I fucked up when I shot that kid. I would have set about bashing myself with whatever was handy so I could get my alibi in place. When you have a gun and a predisposition to use it, you are not letting someone beat you up before you shoot them.

Well, I guess there some DNA in there somewhere. Wouldn't you say? I'm still going to believe that if you are walking around following someone, you have access to that gun you are carrying. It is instantly accessible. It's not locked up, it's not buttoned into the holster, and it's not zipped into a waist pack. Zimmerman was carrying a gun because he planned on using it. Yes there is crime in Miami and every other city, but we are not walking around armed down here. How bad do you think it was in Zimmerman's neighborhood outside of Orlando? Most neighborhood crime is kids anyway. Should we start shooting now? I guarantee you when Zimmerman took his class for that concealed weapons permit, he was told, in depth, about the new 'stand your ground" law and advised to carry that weapon everywhere he went for the rest of his life.

seems like people forget when they were teenagers. I will speculate what happened based on past teenage experience.

There was always a zimmerman on the block. He would always come stalking around , sometimes when we were doing bad shit , sometimes when we weren't, but we were cocky teens , so when he confronted you , you were often rude , and maybe even got in a scuffle a few times.

I would guess this zimmerman guy was one of these dicks. He probably stopped the kid and questioned him. The kid was probably cocky , rude and uncooperative. At some point zimmerman likely put his hands on the kid, the kid reacted as he had the right to, a fight broke out, zimmerman realized he was outmatched. maybe the gun popped out , maybe it didn't , maybe he was scared the kid would get ahold of the gun.

Shitty situation. I would give zimmerman a few years based on his approach to the situation , but thats not how the law works.

I have seen lawyers argue that under Florida law one can initiate a confrontation and if one becomes fearful of being killed or seriously injured one can shoot and it can be ruled as self defense.

When I analyze the logic of it...not really. Most civilians that engage physically do not engage with the intent to kill or seriously injure their opponent...but once it becomes clear that one of the parties is attempting to kill or seriously injure...the picture is somewhat different.

Even if Zimmerman was the one that had physically attacked Trayvon first...once it became apparent that he was no match for Trayvon and Trayvon was banging his head against the ground/asphalt/concrete...which said action could cause serious injury or death...I can understand using a weapon and self defense coming into play under the law.
