"Quid" is just slang for "pound" (money, not weight). We also used the word "nicker" in London for "pound".

BTW, and apropos of nothing, one of my favorite English sayings is: "He's as bent as a nine bob note", which means that the person being referred to is gay.

The use of the word 'quid' is similar to the usage of 'buck'.

Depends on who you're talking to.
Same with monkeys and ponies.

money, cash, bread (bread & honey, money), dough, readies

£1 = quid, nicker, cherry (cherry picker, nicker), nugget, sov
£5 = fiver, jacks (alive, five), lady godiva, bluey
£10 = tenner, cock and hen
£20 = score
£25 = pony
£50 = nifty, half a ton
£100 = oner, long 'un, ton
£200 = deuce
£500 = monkey
£1000 = carpet roll, grand

There are more but mostly newer ones, the above is pretty much the long-standing 'staple' slang terms, including some cockney rhyming slang.
