Man...this election is getting people seriously fired up. I've never seen so much yelling and anger on Maher's show before. (and it's been pretty wild in the past).

Judging from the posts on GFY, what I see on the news, and the anger and division on Maher's show...I'd say it's safe to say that no matter if you love or hate Obama's record as President, one thing it has not done is bring our country together.

Lots of people on both the liberal and conservative side of the coin are unhappy and pissed off & think the "other side" is screwing them over.

I cant stand Obama and listening to him gets me plenty fired up. Romney makes me wanna puke though. The thought of him in the Oval office for anything other than a pleasant visit is terrifying to me

I don't get where people try to say Obama has divided the country.. Ummm hello do you guys remember fucking Bush? The right wing has separated it's self from the rest of this country via their extremism..

Bush was called "the Divider" for a fucking reason. Hell even he said it best himself. "Either you're with us or your against us". He may of aimed that comment toward the world stage but it was very clear he had the same mentality toward the country at home.

Mitt Romney has already started down that exact same path with his 47% or what ever it was deal. The fucking Right Wing is what has divided this country, they wont do anything at all to work with the left.

They act like fucking cry babies when they can't get everything their way. Obama tried to work with the Right, but the Right refused to work with him. They stone walled him on everything then have the gull to try and say Obama has divided the country.

Seriously get real and open your eyes to where the problem is. It's not the left throwing temper tantrums about signing bills to keep the govt running or not signing bills that cause the credit rating of the entire country to drop.. Then signing it soon as that happens.

Seriously open your eyes if you actually think Obama has divided this country.

the reason people on the left are finally getting pissed off is because many of us actually thought once Bush was gone the country would start getting back on track. Instead the hate from the right became even worse and turned to racist with the Tea Party. I think at this point most people on the left are just sick of dealing with the right because most people with any common sense can see the right is unwilling to do anything for the good of the country as a whole but only what is good for their political party.

I didn't mean Obama deliberately went out amongst the masses and tried to divide the country.

What I'm saying (and is evident to anyone with eyes to see and ears to hear) is that this is the most divisive I have ever seen our country.

And it's especially shocking because when Obama took office there really was a good feeling in this country. He came in with some of the highest approval ratings of all time amongst the entire country.

I guess it's that damned old Bush reaching in and dividing the country four years after he left office.

No, it's Obama's policies that are doing it.

A large portion of this country sees what he's doing as the govt. overreaching even further. That is what is dividing the country. At least from where I stand.

I can't even understand how you might think that Obama as President is just some powerless "victim" who is only responsible for "good" things and Bush is responsible for all the bad things...4 years later.

Do you not see what the Right has done every since Obama has taken office? Show me anything Obama has done in any of his speeches or actions where he has intentionally tried to divide this country. At this point I think he pretty much just says "fuck the right" and in all honestly I agree with him. Until the right can come back to the table, act like adults and act on what is best for this country instead of their shallow what is good for their party, then I also say fuck the right.

Just because you might not like like something he does doesn't mean he is trying to divide the country. Obama has gone out of his way to attempt to work with the right only to get stonewalled at every step.

Meanwhile the right is filled with people whom are fucking racist hicks. The Tea party is a fucking hate group at best. Sure there might be a some sensible people among the movement but they are over shadowed with ignorant fucktards that will never work with Obama for two simple reasons.

1) He's black

2) They think Liberal is the same as niger.

There is no middle ground with them and the same mentality has pretty much overtaken the majority of right and it started well before the Tea P{arty with the Religious Right. It's just finally boiled over once they didn't have to hide it anymore.

I think you are wrong.

Listening to people discuss ideas leads me to believe that is the divide.

And once again...a white "liberal" brings up the race card.
Your argument is completely devoid of ideas.

You're saying that half of the voting electorate has no ideas and only see race. Meanwhile, none of them are discussing race. Only liberals are.

Did it ever occur in your narrow view of anybody who doesn't think exactly like you do...that some people might have very passionate opposing viewpoints?
Your argument has no intellectual basis whatsoever.

You call the people in the "Tea Party" 'racists" without even knowing what it is they stand for.

There isn't a single "racist" thing involved with wanting smaller govt.
I don't personally know anyone who is in the Tea Party (or at least has discussed it with me). So I would not presume to call any of them racists.

I do however know many Democrats. Hell, my whole family were Southern Democrats from the 1930's forward. And my great-grandparents and grandparents were 100% Dems...and they were also 100% racists.
Doesn't mean I'm going to stretch things and say that just because they were Democrats and racists, or George Wallace was Democrat and racist...or Democrat Robert Byrd was in the Klu Klux Klan and racist...that doesn't mean the ENTIRE Democrat party is racist.

See how silly that sounded? That's what it sounds like to people like me when we hear white liberals screaming about racists.

Saw this clip on his show last night - fucking funny. And yesterday's show was one of the better ones. I was sure his guests were going to start fighting. Wish the Rolling Stone writer had more chance to speak though but otherwise great.

You can't even take your private or valuable things in your luggage on a trip anymore because the TSA will steal your shit.

No there isn't a racist thing at all about wanting smaller govt.. However there is racist things about this...

That is fucking Racism and there is ignorant signs like that all over every fucking Tea Party Convention.

Lets not even get into the rash of signs where they try to compare "Liberals" the "other" dirty word to the like of communists or try to act as if anyone whom is a liberal is a socialist dictator.

I mean Jesus Fucking Christ these are the same people that went about ranting and raving, that Obama was going to let the UN take over the US and have them take away all our guns. Do you not remember the mad rush of gun sales soon as Obama was elected? Obama is somehow supposed to unify these types of people, and he's the divider because he can't fix ignorant?

Hell a few weeks ago I went to the post office to get my mail and there were fucking ignorant Tea Party dick heads standing out side giving away pamphlets with pictures of Obama with the Hitler mustache. Now I know there were some of these same types of things when Bush was in office but it was very few and far between from small random groups of idiots. It was nothing like we see now from the almost mainstream Right Wing.

I think you're picking and choosing signs from crazy people.

Yes, those signs are racists.
No, I'm sure that handful of people no more represent the "Tea Party" than Robert Byrd being in the Klu Klux Klan or George Wallace personally standing in the door of the university in Alabama to stop blacks from entering represents the Democrat party.

That's what is wrong with our politics lately. Everybody is sensationalizing stupid shit that isn't representative of true viewpoints.
Those are some disturbed people who knew they would get attention with those racist signs. I see that kind of behavior all the time from people wanting attention.

You can't take that and condemn millions of people across the country for those stupid actions by a handful.

Oh common man.. The whole "liberal" thing as a dirty word is everywhere it's on every forum including this one. It's on Fox news everyday. Much the same as the evil Socialist mental retardation, that gets spewed out of the mouth of the Right's talking heads on a daily basis.

The Racist shit is usually reserved for their little rallies but they sell fucking Obama is Hitler buttons & t-shirts at these rallies. They sell "let's put the white back in the white house" shirts & buttons at their rallies..

I mean fuck I lean toward the left but myself I'm Conservative about some issues & liberal about others. Anyone that tries to say they aren't the same is likely just trying to fool themselves.

Sadly some of the left has started to dip into the same kind of hate mentality as the Right has been pushing for so long, with the whole eat the rich bull shit.

I mean fuck if the tea party was just about smaller govt and responsibility to the people from that govt then I'd be all for it. They aren't however.. They use that as their platform but are infested with hate.

Much the same as OWS movement. I mean I can't imagine many people could actually support the fact that out govt is over run by big business and special interest. If OWS stuck to that issue then I'd support them as well, but instead they have their own amount of crack pots that go overboard with their type of hate for the rich.

The difference between the Right & Left and these two groups is the hate has almost over run the right to the point they will not even attempt to work with the left. With the left while we might have some ignorant haters, they are very far from being mainstream, yet I can see it becoming more mainstream as people on the left give up on trying to work with people on the right.

I mean fuck, the GOP's entire tactic since Obama has been in office is to block everything and stagnate the govt to the point nothing gets done. How can anyone work with a group that has already decided not to work with you?

It's clear to see that America is breaking apart. The right and left are separating more and more. The crazies are taking to the streets. What happened in the years since this was the face of America?
