Wordpress pros and cons?

Should I be using Wordpress if I am building a site that is partly blog based? I don't know if it would limit me in any regard, or just make things easier? Does it have a negative effect on SEO? Also I don't know PHP, would this hurt me?

So basically, for a site that is mostly about dating, dating tips, dating reviews - is wordpress beneficial?

I read that too. I'm actually uploading the files right now so I guess I'm gonna try it out.

If any has any other tips I would appreciate it still. Even if it is which plugins to install.

I love using Wordpress. It's so easily customizable and Google loves it too.

Well so far it is extremely difficult to customize the coding on the homepage. I'm trying to edit the <title> tag and the meta, meta keywords but don't know how to do so without changing the TITLE of the website within wordpress. Any ideas?

I am all about WordPress. WordPress CMS has evolved beyond blogging and continues to evolve with security updates, features, best coding practices and much more.

Seems like you are a bit behind....meta keywords are no longer in use.

If you edit that manually, it will all depend on the theme that you are editing since some use static html, some use php, and some not at all. Or try editing header.php in your theme folder if you haven't looked at that yet.

It would be easier for you to install an SEO plugin like All in One SEO or Yoast or just find a theme with those options built in.

There is no reason NOT to include them, whether they are used or not.

I did figure out how to edit it, wasn't simple - needed a plugin.

It's amazing how true this is. I started using wordpress for mainstream, and I'm now getting first page results for my exact keyword domains, but on some pretty major keywords. With few inlinks and no real content, just a few rambling posts I did on the topic.

Finally getting to work making blogs for all my adult sites now, using wordpress multisite.

I use like 10 keywords, not 3,000. This isn't 1998 anymore.

This is where users run into problems with WordPress

Because it is so easy to setup and use, it eliminates technology barriers, so folks that lack coding ability rely on plugins -- most of which are from unknown and not-to-be trusted sources -- it is an invitation to open up your system to hackers.

Most "WordPress security issues" are really "malicious or ineptly coded plugin / theme issues"

I hate that Wordpress has become bloatware with hundreds of useless features that I'll never use. I hate that most programmers feel compelled to use every little single trick in the book to make their Wordpress designs "unique" - when they usually end up looking exactly like everyone else's "unique" designs.

Most themes I've downloaded are full of useless features and redundant code that are there to impress five year olds, and allow anyone to make cute, "flavour-of-the-month" sites - without having a clue how anything works.

Still, I won't use anything but Wordpress.

Yup a lot of our past clients had that issue, especially with 'major' updates because they (WordPress) would change stuff and it would totally fuck up our client designs so we'd end up having to do extra work fixing stuff in the design.

I don't believe that WordPress.org performs any due diligence to ensure safety or functionality, rather, it allows "developers" to list their plugins for download -- sure there are ratings, but if you can't trust the code you can't trust the ratings...

The WP codex (codex.wordpress.org) provides tons of info for developers, but sooo many folks don't bother reading or heeding the tips (such as DO NOT modify core files).

I have no problems with the endless peer review of core files, it's 3rd party plugins and themes that cause issues.

I love WP, but step one for me is a blank page in my text editor (editplus) named index.php and a style.css -- then a lot of copy and paste from the codex until I get the theme I want. No need to bother with unneeded features / overhead / wysiwyg one-size-fits-all features, i.e. drag and drop sidebar widgets, etc.

That's why you don't modify core files.

These problems *rarely* (never) happen when you follow WP Codex best practices

Unfortunately, any designer / developer will tell you that isnt always possible to do, especially when dealing with RSS specific functions and backend admin changes, especially in earlier versions of WP.
