Computer nerds.. What kind of mobo power adapter do I need?

The psu that came with the case has a 4 pin power connector for the board... the board has an 8 pin connector. Can I make that work, some way??

The case is pretty nice but the fucking idiots put the psu at the bottom and the cables are both too short to reach to mobo. Pure genius by design.

The case was a great deal for $49 shipped, but the fucking cables are too short and I'm not sure the psu is going to work

Without the full specs it's hard to see what kind of Watt you need on the PSU. There are some calculators online.

Get MORE than you need and buy quality, PSU is something that people overlook when building rigs and can be a source for all kinds of weird problems if under-dimensioned.

Agreed. A 4-pin connector only provides around 75W. Be good to know more specs.

Sometimes you can get by with just using the 4 pins. It won't hurt to try.

I build every system for my render farm, and I think there's at least one motherboard with a 4pin connector in an 8pin slot. I would probably worry about whether or not that PSU has enough juice.

I was thinking I could get by with four because all I am running off of the board is the cpu http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...?EdpNo=4501108 (A10-5800k) and ballistix low profile ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820148658

Is that what the 8 pin connector is called? PCIE? I though that was a card slot.. Does the molex adapter come out to a 4 pin and then I plug both in, or would it adapt it to the 8 pin connector? As I understand it the 8 pin is just doubling up the wiring, right? I know from past experience god damned amd cpus are always power hungry whores ... it says 100w, but pffft

PCI is different. It's made not to fit in that slot.

They make these things idiot proof, because lots of idiots build their own systems -- and I'm one of 'em.

I ended up turning the psu upside down and nothing out the case.. now the wires reach and it's working fine with four pins (I was pretty sure I'd be alright since I don't have any cards or anything)

If it gets unstable or anything I'll mess with it some more, but it seems to be pretty solid so far. I usually buy a name brand psu, but I didn't really want to spend a-lot.
