:mad 4-year-old grabs loaded gun at family BBQ and accidentally kills wife of Tennessee sheriff?s deputy

NASHVILLE ? Authorities say a 4-year-old boy grabbed a loaded gun at a family cookout and accidentally shot and killed the wife of a Tennessee sheriff?s deputy.

Investigators say Wilson County Deputy Daniel Fanning on Saturday was showing his weapons to a relative in a bedroom of his Lebanon home when the toddler came in and picked up a gun off the bed. Sheriff Robert Bryan says the weapon discharged, hitting 48-year-old Josephine Fanning.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. The child is not related to her or her husband.

Bryan says the shooting was a terrible accident and that within seconds of Fanning placing the gun on the bed, the toddler picked it up.

I love these posts that try to "prove " something for anecdotal evidence. Meanwhile, swimming pools and cleaning chemicals kill WAY more kids than guns do.... Where are the laws to ban those?

One thing has nothing to do with the other. Nobody is rallying against making things, in general, safer for everyone. Changing the subject in an attempt to deflect attention from one issue to a totally unrelated one makes you look like a moron.

Thinning the heard... nothing to see here.

Should we continue populating the planet until there isn't enough food? Let these redneck cunts kill each other. The kid will most likely grow up driving a jacked up F250 an go mudding. Let them to whatever it is they do.

As far as I am concerned, that's another bowl of noodles for me, not gone wasted. YEE HAH!

Lightning kills more people each year than serial killers. So serial killers can not possibly be a problem.

This kind of logic, or actually lack of is called an informal logical fallacy. In particular, Missing the point (irrelevant thesis, ignoratio elenchi, irrelevant conclusion, ignoring the issue, befogging the issue, diversion, red herring, etc.).

The dumbest people in gun threads are always very easy to recognize.
They use words like knives, swimming pools and cars.

I agree it was a dumb move to leave the shit on the bed with a kid around, but sadly every gun owner ain't going to be a 100% gun safety robot at all times. Not an excuse, just a reason. When people get too comfy with anything, shit like this happens. Dude should get his gun rights revoked.

Yep. You know it.

And you know his favorite mantra was "guns don't kill people, people kill people".

That would be a start. An arrest and a charge of criminal negligence should also be on the table. This idiot is about as far from a responsible gun owner as it gets. Sorry, nothing wrong with displaying one's arsenal to others, but laying out loaded weapons with small children nearby and then being such a distracted idiot that he couldn't prevent the kid from getting close or even noticing he was in the room is... well, just plain moronic on a very special level.

The idiot needs his freedom revoked.

Yup, if the 4 year old didn't have a gun he would have found something else to kill that woman. The fact that she is dead has nothing to do with a gun.

People make mistakes. Accidents happen. The kid could have just as easily walked in a room, stuck something into a wall socket and been electrocuted to death. Instead an adult made a poor judgement call and the kid accidentally shot someone.

If this happened every day it would be something to worry about. But it didn't.

There are much worse things to worry about than legal gun owners and accidents, such as criminals and crazy people with guns. And since Pandora's box can't be closed, guns are not going away, so deal with it or keep crying about it. It won't make a difference either way.

Very strange... Why would you be showing off a loaded firearm in a bedroom?

My family was big into hunting when I was a kid, and during one Christmas celebration my cousin (who was in his thirties) brought in a new shot gun. Much to everyone's surprise it was loaded... My step father physically kicked him in the ass as he pushed him out the door.

its too late for america but yeah, the less legal guns in a society, the less illegal guns there are as well. its much harder to smuggle a gun into a country than it is to obtain a previously legal gun illegally thats already there. also, the more armed a society is the more armed a criminal feels he/she needs to be.

Why he pulled out a loaded gun and put it on a bed while showing off his guns makes no sense, that and having a 4 year old running around, clearly not a safe family.

I do not understand this logic "guns don't kill, people do". As if people would kill as many people if they did not have guns. Like with bare hands or something.

Yes... and we should be able to extrapolate that argument to machine guns, and nuclear weapons, tanks, fighter jets, military cannons, rocket launchers, etc.

But those are illegal for citizen use. Why?

And this argument is a funny one too... "if laws forbid guns, only outlaws will have them". Laws forbid us from owning machine guns, and how often do you hear about machine guns being used in crimes?

Clearly laws restricting their LEGAL use also impacts their ILLEGAL use.

Or how about this argument... "if we outlaw guns, the black market will EXPLODE!" If that were the case, Uzi's and Mac 10's would be much more popular. But again, I've never heard of them being used in the commission of a crime.

I'm pretty sure no 4 year old has managed to kill anyone with a swimming pool.

Besides that just because people drive drunk and not crash, means we should just legalize drunk driving. I mean hey it's not my fault that some irresponsible idiots can't drive drunk, so why are my rights violated.. Am I right?

There are much worse things to worry about than legal gun owners and accidents, such as criminals and crazy people with guns. And since Pandora's box can't be closed, guns are not going away, so deal with it or keep crying about it. It won't make a difference either way.
ahh no, should not be possible in houses these days

I think the most horrific part abotu this story is that this kid is going to grow up to realise they killed someone as a child - a mother / sister / wife / daughter....

Not true, why just the other day I blatantly pointed a gun at the hired Mexican I picked up at Lowes, told him to get into my truck drove him to my place of residence where he promptly cleaned my pool and floor.

None of that would have been possible with the help of Smith & Wesson.

In fact, she should have done it preemtively .... as her safety was threatned by being so near a kid...
Also, there could have been a mentally ill person in the crowd, so while at it, she should have killed all for her safety.
This is why 100 rounds should not be banned , as she has the 2nd amendment right to defend herself ...

Amazing loonies lefties commies libbys ....
