As a matter of fact, yes.

Nearly all of the German military fought with honor and valor. They were very brave and in some cases fought against incredible odds. Yes, there was crimes against humanity on a gross scale, but you can also argue all sides did this.

At the same time the US continues to celebrate it's victory over Nazi Germany, but at the end of the day we invaded and fought a war against a country that had done nothing to us.

(Keep in mind that the Nazis slaughtered everyone in my grandmother's family except for her, which is how she came to the US.)

You can argue that Iraq was a complete waste. But then imagine Iraq taking over Kuwait, and when no one stopped them took over Saudi Arabia and eventually came to control 80% of the oil in the Middle East. Suddenly gas in the US goes up four fold and people can't afford to drive to work, and even if they could they couldn't afford the food prices because the gas prices affected that too.

Don't think that can't happen? I guess you don't remember waiting in lines for gas on odd and even days in the 1970s.

This also applies in the business world too. When upper management decides to go in one direction, that's the direction the company is going in. Everyone on down the chain follows orders, no matter if they agree with the policy or not. The people at the very bottom who do the grunt work and make the product don't decide what they make, they follow orders and the make the product as ordered. Because we are not fucking communists, you can leave the company and go elsewhere or even start your own.

Again, the difference is you see this being the fault of the military when instead it's the fault of the government and whomever is in Congress AND the Oval Office. You claim that valor is invading the weak; Valor is showing courage under fire. You see the US attacking a smaller force but the truth is that war is made up by lots of small battles by men that are brave fighting against the odds - on both sides.

The closest I have to knowing anyone in any special forces is through a friend of mine who was in he Marines. He was in the infantry and one of the guys in his squad passed the test to get into Force Recon. After my buddy was out that guy and a few of his other Marine buddies were on a road trip that came through here and stopped to hang with him for a day so I met the guy. He was a very cool guy, but basically said if you are not the kind of person who wants to wake up every morning knowing you are going to likely push yourself to limit that day, special forces is not for you. It clearly takes someone of a very special mindset.

We did disaster relief for Hurricane Andrew, then deployments to Somalia and Haiti, Jungle Warfare School in Panama, a couple of airborne artillery training deployments to other bases, and many, many air assault training exercises with the Pennsylvania Guard so they'd have some training picking up heavy shit with their CH47 Helos.

After all of that I reclassed to Air Traffic Control. Spent a year in South Korea, and then decided that two enlistments was enough and started on this interweb stuff six months before I got out.

He was in the infantry and one of the guys in his squad passed the test to get into Force Recon. After my buddy was out that guy and a few of his other Marine buddies were on a road trip that came through here and stopped to hang with him for a day so I met the guy. He was a very cool guy, but basically said if you are not the kind of person who wants to wake up every morning knowing you are going to likely push yourself to limit that day, special forces is not for you. It clearly takes someone of a very special mindset.
