YEAH!!! WOOT! WOOT! I just received word this morning that because of my top 20 finish in the Miami Tough Mudder race, I have been invited to the 2013 World's Toughest Mudder. It's a 10 mile course with 35 obstacles that you go through for 24 hours straight, Average finisher does 60 to 70 miles of obstacles....

I am SO Fricken psyched!!!!!

I ran the Maryland Tough Mudder last year. I was a bit sad that not only was it not really as Tough as they make it sound but they allow people to just walk the whole thing and skip all the obstacles. I expected to be the proud and among the elite to have an orange headband to wear as a trophy but then I found out they just give those away, :|

Designed by Navy Seals and British Special Forces... The entrance exam to become a Navy Seal or BSF is significantly tougher than that.

It really depends on you. It's how fast you decide you are going to go at it, and whether you are going to decide to go through and complete each obstacle. Basically it's up to you, and it's the honor system. You are the only one that knows how much you put out.

In the toughest mudder race though, there are penalties for not completing each obstacle, and it's obviously people that are all fully motivated.

(p.s. I've done the Spartan race, and the Warrior dash, and they were not nearly as difficult.... so imagine how easy THEY are...)

I jogged as much as I could and did all the obstacles. But it's just crappy seeing other people walk it and skip everything to get the orange headband and then they run around saying they did Tough Mudder.

It was pouring rain in ours so the entire course had been turned into a 4-6" sloppy mud fest. It was like running on ice with 5lb weights on your feet. They ended up closing the course and refunding everyone that was supposed to run it the next day because it got so bad.

Not to mention the insane lack of planning for coordination of parking... We were supposed to run at 11am, we aimed to get there at 9am (as they said traffic was getting congested). We didn't get to park until 1pm. The traffic got so bad it backed up and stopped the highway for miles. People just started parking their cars anywhere, on the highway, on the side of the street, and on sidewalks and walking 2-3 miles to the course just so they could run it. If you didn't make it by 2pm or so they turned you away and said you couldn't run it.

I love endurance racing and really looked into getting in on one of these but the more i looked into it and saw the obstacles were so make shift and unorganized the lamer it sounded..

basically what you said, you can skip everything and anything plod around and tell everyone you did the whole thing.. not easy to fake your way through a marathon or triathlon these days with chip trackers.. I'm sticking to those for now.. maybe cross fit next year.. Those would be better with weight classes though.

That's awesome! Congrats

Be sure to post some pics from the course! Crazy to think about that guy doing the course 3 or 4 times back to back.

Watch the video. You can take breaks, it's up to you how well you want to finish. I've been talking to someone that did it, and the motivated guys are doing 5 to 6 times through the course, so 50 to 60 miles.

You only get the black headband if you finish the race

they define finishing by still standing after 24 hours.

honestly high altitude exercising is the best i've ever done. i climbed and hiked manchu picchu for 5 days with a 40lb bag on my back the whole time. 4 days later pipecrew and i turned in our best time. i'd love to go back to 14k feet and then do a mudder couple days later

instead i run about 3-4 miles every other day with a 25lb weight vest, then do just routine weight lifting. about 5 days before, i'll max out at about 10 miles with the weight vest. works well for me, everyone is different, that was just for the regular tough mudders. haven't figured out the world's toughest yet haha
