Former Nestlé CEO Says Water Is Food That Should Be Privatized ? Not A Human Right

http://americanlivewire.com/nestle-c...a-human-right/

"Do you believe water is a basic human right? According to Nestlé CEO water is a foodstuff that should be privatized, not a human right. Nestlé CEO Peter Brabeck says that with the global population rising water is not a public right, but a resource that should be managed by businessmen. Please do share your thoughts."

Think about your answer. And then think about your answer if there were no natural potable water left on earth. How do we make that water potable? Who pays for that?

The answer is not an easy one. Lots of things to consider. We have 7 billion people. How much do you care about the other 6.9... billion?

its nestle and the coca cola company who are buying all the fresh water available in 3rd world countries in shady deals with the local corrupt government usually set in place by the west...

if it was up to nestle they would privatize air...should be shot in the face for being a heartless bastard with 10 yachts fighting for private water...

he's protecting his golden parachute and polluting the world with what will be one of the worst environmental nightmares we will have to deal with- plastic bottles.

I didn't watch the whole video so forgive me - but what does 'if there were no potable water left' have to do with it? Are we running out of water or something? And 'if' we are, are you really saying some business executives somewhere should be in control of who gets how much of it?

I'm not saying anything, I'm suggesting that these are things that need to be taken into consideration. I pay for the water I drink, shower with, etc. In very few places is water "free." Even in the country, where water is of better quality, people still pay big money to have wells drilled/maintained plus have the water treated while it's being pumped.

We are already at a place where water is not free in most of the world. Even if the Coca-Cola's were completely banned from hoarding water, it would not change the fact that I pay a water bill every month.

Even 100, 200 years ago, water was not free. Somebody had to install a well, they had to pump the water up, they had to transport it to where it is needed. Or they had to walk down to the river every day and drag back buckets of water.

If anyone here is getting free water? please post where you live, it would be interesting to see which cities/countries provide 100% free water to their citizens.

ok I wasn't getting into the whole 'free' versus free, and I'm out of this thread. Bad enough I get sucked into threads where things have happened that I can't change, let alone one where I'm arguing the toss over what some guy somewhere thinks should happen, with people who didn't say it, about something that hasn't happened

No..it's corrupt leaders in 3rd world countries that are SELLING the water rights to the highest bidder at the expense of their populations.

You described free water, you only pay for delivery services, cleaning services and so on (building a well or delivering through modern systems).

In your definition, that water is only "free" if you have it on your property. If you don't own property or if your land doesn't have water on it, where would you get the free water?

There is water in the ground almost everywhere and nobody "owns" that.

Groundwater depletion is becoming a problem though: http://ga.water.usgs.gov/edu/gwdepletion.html

So if we're to make it a property rights issue, are the people that had their groundwater stolen from underneath them going to be fairly compensated?

American oil-tycoon T. Boone Pickens was one of the first to rush to capitalize on the impending water shortage, investing a meager $100-million in a scheme that he readily admits will make him an easy billion dollars, if not far more.

Not to be outdone by Pickens is another Texas family who may have taken their cue from their fellow Texan. The Bush family has purchased nearly 100,000 acres of land in Paraguay. What's in Paraguay you say? A little town called Paso de Patria which is near the Triple Frontier (Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay), but is also very near Bolivian gas reserves and the Guarani indigenous water region, within the Triple Border.

I live in Vegas....water isn't a "right" out here. It's the damn desert! We are always having to ration water here.
I suspect it has always been so throughout human history. Some regions had lakes and streams, some didn't . I'm sure a lot of people have died fighting over water over the centuries.

well i was curious about cost.. i was told by a few dentists that we have flouride in our water

but vancouver shut that down in the 60s.. we have a natural .005PPM in our water.. i have had 1 cavity and that's cause of wisdom teeth

so..

we need to do a little local research

so..

we need to do a little local research
Fortunately most of the UK doesn't have Fluoride in the water, only areas where they needed to calm/dumb people down.

tap water existed before fluoridation..

my parents have never paid for water, aside from the upkeep of the well they have on their property.

First corporations pollute the natural water supply and then this same group of people say that clean water isn't a right and you should have to pay for it. Perhaps THEY should pay for it. I should be able to walk down to the river and fill up buckets to drink. Pumping contaminants into rivers and lakes ruined that.

Don't large western corporations have a moral obligation to not bid?

no its corrupt 3rd world leaders who are put in place by the west or replaced if they do not obey...you do not win a "democratic" election without the help of the west...democracy is just a big lie when installed by force

after years of US foreign policy on a region, this usually means decades of sanctions, the whole region is impoverished and there is barely any economy left...its hard for you to understand because you have a choice because you have an economy left intact

its like beating somebody to a pulp and then offering them a ride home...if he accepts out of dire straits you can be cavalier about it and say he had a choice to die where he lay and do the honorable thing...

ive been to many poor countries from north aftica right up to indonesia, its the same story everywhere, nestle and coca cola are buying up all the fresh water and selling it to locals...the tap water is undrinkable and you may find water absurdly cheap as an american but when you have next to zero income you will need to drink water somewhere and in most of these places there is nothing else...

they do not find new springs or invest in technology much, they just buy state owned springs/wells/whatever and crank up the price gradually...it has nothing to do with capturing emerging markets or bullshit like that its pure exploitation because the governments are practically dependent on the USA...

calling them puppet governments would be appropriate...because when your existence depends on somebody, you do what ever the fuck they want...its very simple really...

funny how 'have to' and 'choose to' are misunderstood from time to time.

As for it not being a human right - human beings die without water - it's hardly a luxury.

next time the mob comes to a small shop and asks for protection be sure to drive in with your lambo, tell the shop owner, whilst holding your champagne glass, surrounded by your bodyguards, in a duke-of-earl type of voice:

"I would not pay! I would set my bodyguards on him and sip more champagne"

yes yes minte you are so brave from your position...must be very hard for you from your multi million $$$ home to do the right thing...

define pussy: a rich guy finding fault with free water for the poor...
