Don't see what the big deal is with mobile...

I mean like in 2005 when the screens were 320x240 and in 32 colors, there was mos def, a need. But my iphone, for instance has 1136x640 resolution. All of my sites, as is, looks fucking dope. Can someone please enlighten me why there is a need for mobile sites in 2013?!?

Slow 2g connections and banners that leads to mobilefriendly sites.

Most newssites have got it right now, but they started out with mobile sites just being a light version of the original site, rather than a site that was optimized for mobiles.

No need for mobile sites, just responsive designs so you dont have to scroll east to west.

smartphones, while growing, still represent less than 20% of total mobile traffic. Also, most people have some kind of traffic control plan and/or are in slower traffic plans, so if you serve them with 1Gb content when they visit your site, that will be the first and last time they ever visit it. Plus, any decent developer should include a way to see the site in desktop version if the user CHOOSE to do so.

Think of this: there's a reason why the most important and innovative companies in the world have mobile versions for their sites: for starters, they're not willing to lose between 50 and 80% of their mobile traffic . Only those that are way behind in the game are those who ask why to have a mobile version (no offense, you know I like you, but sometimes adult industry is extremely frustrating with the delay it has in technology)

Anyway, since I know you're really smart, have good taste and know what to do and what not to do: if in doubt, always look at the most successful ones. Always. Without exceptions. There's a reason why they're successful, and being dumb isn't exactly one of those reasons. Of course, just my not so humble 2 rupees

what I find really shocking is that until 2 years ago people was desperate about losing traffic if their sites didn't look fine in........ IE6!!!!!! And now they're happily willing to lose 100x more traffic on the most expanding technology and growing market nowadays just because...

Nowadays is average 10-15% of every webpage visit done by a mobile device, so you have to make sure that you optimize your website for mobile users as well.
Mobile has a very big advantage over the normal web and that is the way of billing. Mobile content billing (MCB) This means that if someone use his 3/4 G network then there is only one click needed to convert the user. If the user use a WIFI connection then he has to give in a phone number so we can trace his identify the user and still bill him.

Conclusion: The conversion rate on mobile traffic is much higher then the conversion rate on desktop traffic. The major reason for this is, the way of billing.

Hit me up for more information!

so in the example of a paysite, have a cascading CCBill to mobile when the server recognizes incoming mobile device. Then set up mobile.domain.com, offer streaming only capability? I think I got the jist of what your saying.

It would be cool if a paysite owner that does mobile could give a percentge of what I am exactly missing out on...

I think the issue is that users should be able to read and use the site without having to constantly zoom in and out and scroll left and right as well as up and down. We're currently working on making our site more mobile & tablet friendly as we're seeing 29% of our traffic now coming from mobile/tablet devices with 23% of that being specifically mobile phones.

Time to adapt!

I think you have many elements of analysis now to make an informed decision.

I'll add just one thing: if you choose to go mobile (and you really should) I'd recommend to forget about responsive and go adaptive. Responsive is OK, but doesn't cover all the needs for mobile markets, specially when it comes to content delivery. Plus, it's easier and faster to implement and gives you a lot more freedom, whether from a UI/UX POV as from a creativity POV

I think the initial presentation of your websites should be Mobile ready.... lots of people lay in bed, sit on the toilet, ride the bus, wait for friends at a coffee shop while browsing from their phones.

So during these times.... your site needs to be beautiful and catch their eye from their Mobile.

Then---They will take that experience... then go to their main computers to actually USE the site on a day to day or week to week basis.

Thoughts. . . ?
