Shocking Shit! Internet Porn in the UK to become Opt-in. Blocked by default.

Quote:
The new measures will make it so that every household connected to the internet will have their porn blocked unless they ask to receive it. According to the Daily Mail, Cameron will announce that internet pornography is "corroding childhood."

It's going to make it interesting if this kind of thing keeps up. I imagine there will be a lot of men who would like to "turn on" the porn, but won't want their wives finding out. Maybe an increase of things moving to tablets / smartphones over 3/4g connections where they can enable porn without anyone finding out?

So instead of getting kids with no money, we'll possibly be getting desperate adults with credit cards.

Maybe this could narrow the shit traffic a bit.

Just saying, could be a good thing?

This was bound to happen and now watch it happen in other western countrys as well..

Apart from blocking at the ISP level these are other laws which will come into effect as well

In a speech, the prime minister will warn that access to online pornography is "corroding childhood".

The new measures will apply to both existing and new customers.

Family-friendly filters will be automatically selected for all new customers - though they can choose to switch them off.

And millions of existing computer users will be contacted by their internet providers and told they must decide whether to activate filters to prevent their children accessing unsuitable material.

'Protect innocence'

Other measures expected to be announced by Mr Cameron include:

New laws so videos streamed online in the UK will be subject to the same restrictions as those sold in shops
Search engines will be given until October to introduce further measures to block illegal content. They have a "moral duty" to block illegal content, Mr Cameron will say
He will also call for warning pages to pop up when people try to search for illegal content
Experts from the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (Ceop) will be given more powers to examine secretive file-sharing networks
A secure database of banned child porn images gathered by police across the country will be used to trace illegal content and the paedophiles viewing it

Mr Cameron will say: "I want to talk about the internet. The impact it is having on the innocence of our children. How online pornography is corroding childhood.

"And how, in the darkest corners of the internet, there are things going on that are a direct danger to our children, and that must be stamped out.

On Sunday, Mr Cameron called on internet companies to do more to block access to material depicting abuse

"I'm not making this speech because I want to moralise or scaremonger, but because I feel profoundly as a politician, and as a father, that the time for action has come. This is, quite simply, about how we protect our children and their innocence."

Mr Cameron will say that possession of online pornography depicting rape will be made illegal.

The coalition government has pledged to prevent abuse of women and girls, so tackling a culture that glorifies abuse is critical for achieving this?

Holly Dustin Director, End Violence Against Women Coalition

Existing legislation only covers publication of pornographic portrayals of rape, as opposed to possession.

"Possession of such material is already an offence in Scotland but because of a loophole in the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2008, it is not an offence south of the border," he is to say.

"Well I can tell you today we are changing that. We are closing the loophole - making it a criminal offence to possess internet pornography that depicts rape."

The move has been welcomed by women's groups and academics who had campaigned to have "rape porn" banned.

Holly Dustin, director of the End Violence Against Women Coalition, said the group was "delighted".

"The coalition government has pledged to prevent abuse of women and girls, so tackling a culture that glorifies abuse is critical for achieving this," she said.

"The next step is working with experts to ensure careful drafting of the law and proper resourcing to ensure the law is enforced fully."
'No safe place'

Mr Cameron, who has faced criticism from Labour over cuts to Ceop's funding, will insist that the centre's experts and police will be given the powers needed to keep pace with technological changes on the internet.

"Let me be clear to any offender who might think otherwise: there is no such thing as a safe place on the internet to access child abuse material," he will say.

On Sunday, Mr Cameron called on internet companies to block access to material depicting child abuse.

A spokesman for Google said: "We have a zero tolerance attitude to child sexual abuse imagery. Whenever we discover it, we respond quickly to remove and report it.

"We recently donated $5m (£3.3m) to help combat this problem and are committed to continuing the dialogue with the government on these issues."

According to some experts, "default on" can create a dangerous sense of complacency, says BBC technology correspondent Rory Cellan-Jones.

He says ISPs would dispute Mr Cameron's interpretation of the new measures - they are insisting they do not want to be seen as censors.

In a same way as NetNanny and other popular filters do it. That's not really hard, technically.

I don't see any problem with that actually. They are not going to censor the Net. They are going to provide a free content filter to those who really need it.

Exactly what I was thinking, Mobile porn in the UK about to go up.

it already works like this with Mobile companies, the default is family friendly, so you have to call to unblock porn, however thats a call you can make at any time and your wife doenst have to know.

Its not so simple as that.

They (or they did) ask for your credit card no to prove you are 18. Many do not have credit cards and those who do may not with to use it to unblock there phones.

This can be an easy way for isp's to make cash by charging a fee on your credit card to unblock.

The poblem is what is a portn site. Is only tease porn? Its mainly clothed and topless ladies. If that is porn then by rights the sun newspaper site should be blocked as it posts topless pics.

Do you block twitter as its full of porn pics?

What about google as it has rude pics in its google search.

Will all isp's share the same list. You may have your site blocked by oone isp but not another.

Will you block sex shop sites as they often have rude pics.

How about art photography sites?

If its done on the word porn, it will mean every news website and blog could be blocked if they have ever posted a story about porn as the word porn will be on the site.

You may find that your mainstrean site is blocked in the uk and you never know.

I can see the situation of such as a german or french (or any eu base) website (mainstream) being blocked in the uk and they do not find out for years. How much compansation they could claim from loss of earnings. EU law states that (I belive) any business has a right to trade in any ey country. so if there site is on a block, to me they could have a case.

In fact i do wonder under eu law if the goverment can do this or not.

If you buy a new mobile or get a new sim card they are also blocked until you contact them to unblock it. They do the same with dongles. I couldent even get onto Youtbe until I phoned them and they wanted my credit card details to unblock it .

By the way one thing I bet you will find is within a few months school children will be trading dvd's andother storage devises full of porn in the playground if they cannot access it at home. Most modern phonescan hold gigs of porn and the content will be swaped via blue tooth.

If anything this opt in will expose children to porn more than ever.

Also I bet people will opt in then charge there friends to use there wifi so there family do not know. People will be making big money by making there wifi signal as stong as they can and charging those near by to access unrestrected porn.

This will create a huge black market in porn.

And as I have also sugested we will also see lots of sites set up so you can by pass the opt in system.

We will also see this splitting up families as wifes may be fuming if they find out there husbands have opted in to porn.

This could even lead to murder. Just think if your part of a religiouse comunity and the religoise leaders insist on checking your computer to see if you have opted in to porn. If you have they may condem you and somone in the comunity may feel the right to kill you as a sinner.

Opt in is not simple. Its going to create problems.

Many in a business share wifi. For instance students in a student flat share a wifi. Some in a building may rent an office and share wifi. Some may want to opt in, and others not.

While the idea may seem simple, in truth this is going to create such huge problems that in the end it cannot work.

On one good note if this fails, it may also in turn bring down atvod too.

I do not have one as I do not need one.

TBH mate I am glad that i dont have many porn sites left now and I will be getting rid of the ones I have left cause give it another 5 years or so and Porn will be censored into a tiny corner of the internet. They really do not want porn online now.

How they will masturbate when they need to hold tablet? This is sick,I've thought this are news from North Korea.

I can bet that there is some seriously sick shit on Cameron's computer.

People are going to make huge cash selling pirated porn in there local pubs, as well as selling there wifi to others near by who fear or cannot opt in.

Proabition simply earns people big bucks in black market ecomomey.

You are prob right and the amount of people who still sell mainstream pirated dvds is still huge. Where I used to live before we would always get teenagers knocking on the door asking if we wanted to buy copied DVDs and they were all the latest films which had just been released

Yeah, if you use pay as you go for your Mobile, then they will ask you to give them your card details or go to the post office (like in Germany). If you have a contract, they already know you are over 18 so all it takes is a quick phone call.

Regarding the billing if you do not have a credit card or dont want to use it online, there is a massive side of the industry that relies on Operator Integrated billing for all content on mobiles and tablets, where your charges go straight to your bill. (only over 3G, there is places like in France where they are as far as charging your IP so you can have Operator Integrated billing over Wi-Fi).

Either way good or bad this is going to change things for anyone making money from UK based users.

I don't have a problem with this. All of you fucking idiots have ruined the internet to the point where people can not search for anything without seeing porn images or sites.

Just as you have to show an ID to walk into many porn shops or to buy booze, you should have to AGREE that you want porn on your computer. Simple solution to a problem that we created.

But will that be the end? Nope. Right now some of you dick heads are plotting ways to get around it so you can shove black dicks down their throat even if they opt out.

I am glad I am kinda out of porn and I call me a porn hater but with the things iv seen going on now I do sometimes wish they would ban porn from the net alltogether. Being involved with the porn biz has certainly opened my eyes to some of the scumbags and lowlifes in it, But i do not think this is the way to go when they start censoring legal porn sites, I think it is up to the parents to control what their kids are seeing cause I know I did when mine were younger. This should be an opt in not an opt out . We always take the piss out of NK and China for censoring sites now it is happening in our own countries. Just how far they can take this is anybodys guess but its the start of something which could be used to block mainstream sites they dont want us to see.

I can bet my life scool kids will be making a fortune selling porn at scool.

Just think how much even a cheap smart phone can hold. Swap via blue tooth.

You can see whats going to happen is people will shoot there own content and flog it on dvd in locals pubs. They may use people under 18. But it will be almost imposible to find out as its on dvd and no contact info.

Plus the tax will drop to the goverment.

But many will make lots of cash selling in pubs.

Its the perfect time too as many do not have jobs or cash. So selling pirated porn will be a no brainer. we will see huge amount of pirated porn in the uk.

you can just tell this will fail. it just cannot work.

Well... If you are an UK webmaster, you have to opt in for sure. Gotta keep those sites running, yes?

Yeah, but what about all the pussy whipped blokes who do have credit cards but are afraid their wives might find out they're looking at naughty movies on the internet? What about them?

Given that such a law even passed tells me that there's a whole lot of pussy whipped men like that in today's UK

What the hell happened to your country anyway? Hell, there was a time when your countrymen ruled the waves and the sun never set on the British Empire.

Where did it all go wrong?

My opinion is if they're so pussy whipped they won't opt-in to view porn, chances are they won't pay for a membership because their wives will see the charge... So they're worthless to us anyway.

The law isn't approved until it's approved. The major ISPs don't want to do it. Google doesn't want to do it. There will be cries of censorship. From my understanding this is simply a suggestion at this point, the beginning of what could potentially be a new policy.

When it comes around, we'll actually see what happens. I'm told they wanted something similarly done in AU a few years ago and it got killed. After debating it, people realized it was a waste of time and $$.

That component was part of a bigger component dealing with child abuse as well. We'll see if the legal porn component of "default-on" actually survives.

Here's an article that hates on porn, saying this is all smoke & mirrors: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisf...-internet-porn

It occurred to me that the unintended consequence of such a move might be to popularize and desensitize people to porn. In other words, if everyone has to go on record saying "i want porn", rather than it being a private, personal choice that people don't talk about.. then its going to be a topic of discussion, its going to be a lot of people openly joking about it and discussing it and discussing likes/dislikes and so on. Most likely, it would ultimately become less stigmatized.

Used to be if you wanted porn online you had to actually pay for it... now anyone of any age can watch millions of videos for free instantly on the fucking tube sites... which is why we have problems with young people getting hooked on this shit and fucking up the way they view women and sex and literally screwing up the chemical dopamine reactions in their brains, there are lots of new studies coming out about the negative effects of chronic porn use on the brain... no one should be surprised that laws like this are going to start being introduced by all these fucking orwellian governments who want to control every aspect of our lives... get used to it because you know you ain't gonna do shit about it...

Look at the comments on the major news portals, especially the daily mail who claim to have started it all, it's hugely unpopular, the against comments far out weigh the for comments. It may not be a done deal just yet, it's clear most people don't want it and it's just a political smokescreen in most opinions.

It's kind of funny, but not haha funny, that they would do this with any sort of site because the fundamental way that the internet as we know it works is by request and service. Every one of us did, as a matter of fact, REQUEST that the page at gofuckyourself.com be served to us. Then, and ONLY then, were we permitted to view the page, provided we were an acceptable client. In other words, in every real sense the entire internet is already blocked for everyone UNTIL a client requests something.

I remember when it used to be blocked until someone paid for access to it.

Nonsense? I wish it was. Even if I did my best to prove it the people on this forum will obviously remain in denial about it because pushing porn is how they make a living, so I don't think I will waste much more of my time. If anyone here actually does care to look into what I'm talking about I'm sure that they are smart enough to use google and research it on their own.

Even if you come to understand that it can be damaging and addicting won't change anything anyways... do you think the guy at the corner liquor store gives a shit that he's literally selling liquid poison to addicts and ruining lives? Doubt it, as long as there is demand for it and he can make money from it he's going to keep on selling it...

If all damaging things were banned we'd start with religion and would all worship the all-powerful Atheismo.. until it were banned.
