I remember a few years ago we had some family over at our house, and i was on the laptop just messing around, and i was about to show someone a clip that was on my desktop. But instead of clicking the icon for the vid i wanted to show, i clicked one with a similar name (let's say it was named 0003).

Instead of the clip i thought it was, it was the 3rd movie sample for a gallery i was making that day. But because i never expected it, it was loaded with the sound up fairly loud for a good few seconds before i realised what i had just done, and then tried to quickly close it. Let's just say some of my family got more than they bargained for


It had to be an anal gallery i was submitting didn't it ??

Telephone numbers and addresses sneaking on to Google for gay sites because of whois and Arin. Lesson learned. Don't even put it on your account even if you usually use other contacts since things mess up sometimes.

Really early on with a site I had someone publish my whois on usenet for a VERY kinky site of mine. I had to get dejanews to remove it and then later Google news. It's back now but 15 years later (I was in college at the time) and six addresses later it's not a big deal as all the info is outdated and the site is long gone.

I bet whois and arin data causes a lot of these incidents for adult webmasters.

I started running sites in college back in 99/2000 and one year I got a 1099 from a company, but for some reason I must of used my dorm address instead of my PO Box and it got forwarded to my parents house.

Although I was about 20 years old, having my dad call to ask me "WHAT THE FUCK IS NASTYDOLLARS?!?!?!" it was pretty embarrassing.

Years ago when I was in CA, word spread amongst our group of friends that I "ran porn sites." Hmmm. I remember getting a whole bunch of promo DVD's at some event and bringing them home, but not knowing what to do with them. So, I put them in a chest buried with a whole bunch of CD's and other things that I knew I would never have to access.

Well my cousin-in law's family visited and when I came home from work, I found most of the contents of the chest out since the kids were playing in it. The porn DVDs were neatly stacked though which clearly meant a non-toddler did that.

Same here. The problem are the Copy Clon Whois Sites, that still cache whois info from years ago... Even tho I protected with whois privacy all my domains, I can still find all my information (Even from my previous home!!) in some of those copycat clon whois sites. How do you deal with that?.. I tried to contact the owners of those sites to update my info, but they just don't answer.

I haven't had too many that were really that awkward, but a few that stand out.

1. When I first started I accidentally put the name of my site in the Payee slot when I signed up for a sponsor so my first check from them came made out to Extreme Anal Links. I deposited it via ATM and the bank never said a thing.

2. I was out with a group of people. We were at a comedy club waiting for the show to start. One of the guys there worked with a friend of mine and ran a part time limo business on the side. He is talking to me about building him a better website. When he asks what kind of sites I build I tell him different types, but I do some work in adult. At the top of his lungs he exclaims, "Adult? Like with dicks!?" Everyone in the room stopped what they were doing and looked at us. I started laughing and he turned bright red.

3. I had a checking account at Washington Mutual bank. One day I get a letter from them telling me that they have good information that a check I deposited is going to bounce. I was heading out to run some errands so I stop by the bank to see what is going on. I show the letter to the teller and she goes and gets the manager who pulled me aside and said in a very hushed voice, "That check is from an adult company. My experience is that most of them are shady and bounce checks." The check in question was one from a company I had been promoting for a while and never had a problem. I explained to him that about 90% of the checks I deposited were from adult companies and I have not bounced one yet. He then says in a much louder voice. "We didn't know that when you opened the account. Had we known it was porn money we might not have opened the account." Everyone in the bank (it was small) looked at us. I just shrugged and told him I would be back tomorrow to close the account and remove my smut money from their precious bank.

The only way I know of besides trying to sue them or pay the extortion money (then three more copycat sites usually pop up wanting you to pay more) is to seed the Google results with a lot of false hits for the information which is out there. Make some information legitimate and half incorrect. The idea being to bury the really embarrassing stuff a couple pages deep where no casual person will see it and even if they do they won't know whether it's true. Or just don't give a shit about it.

I was on the phone with my bank manager, who was female and extremely uptight all the time. I had finally managed to gain some headway with her and also the bank.
