You have to look at the time frame and accept the differences in society during the different times.

In the 1940s during WWII the nuclear bomb was nothing more than a bigger bomb. We were already employing carpet bombing and fire bombing; We were destroying entire cities and their populations by sending out hundred of the planes. Tens of thousands died in single attacks.

This was considered acceptable then.

Since the end of WWII, weapons of mass destruction are no longer acceptable in any form, be it nukes or chemical weapons. This is why they have never been used since then.

You are right on the principle, but who decides when it changes ?
For example, it wasn't ok to be gay, let's say 10 years ago and now every country should consider that it's acceptable.

idk if it's that. I would want to think that American forces would do a better job because I'm prejudiced but Russian special forces are pretty well trained. It's hard to not have innocent casualties in these situations.
