College football players boycott : The war has begun!

One of the most telling complaints was that laundry of player uniforms was so bad that it spread staff infections.

Please understand this boycott : It is not about players getting paid, etc...
It's about player conditions. "Work conditions", for people who still think this a game that's played for fun.

Would your school's conference fine you $20,000 for missing a "game played for fun"?

Quote:
"I've been in touch with the (Southwestern Athletic Conference) and Jackson State University and this has been declared a no contest," Grambling spokesperson Will Sutton said in a statement.

Grambling athletics director Aaron James said Friday night that Grambling decided to forfeit the game at 4:30 CT and that the school will have to pay a $20,000 fine to the SWAC in accordance with league bylaws.
It's NOT a game!

It's a game when your fat ass is in the front yard throwing the ball, just like playing army;
nobody is "playing" when they hit the field for real.

It's hard to win in college football period.

It's impossible to win when your facilities are so poor that high school recruits only sign as a last resort.
The best players sign with other schools and then beat you.

grambling state current enrollment <5000

is this a big deal? is this even a deal?

prima donna athletes at a tiny college boycott a game because they mad about coach being fired, long bus rides (what do they want an airplane for travel?), a shitty gym and maybe some dirty clothes?

waah. sounds like these guys need helmets off the field too.

If you think trying to avoid staph infections is prima donna behavior then thank god you don't run anything I would ever walk into.

there's no proof those dirty louisianians got staph from the athletic facilities

Sutton added that buildings throughout campus, including the library, have similar problems because of neglect, and that the conditions football players have complained of are symptomatic of problems campus-wide stemming from substantial budget cuts.

"If people want to get this fixed, there are two things they can do: Make a donation to the Grambling Foundation and the other is lobby legislators to fund Grambling at the level it should be funded," Sutton said.

prima donna----

The players were bothered, according to the letter, that "the president and athletic director traveled by plane."

Your type of thinking is why this all happened,
so stop kidding yourself that you know how to fix it or even what's wrong.

lolz, settle down, i never said anything about knowing how to fix any problem/what's wrong.

simple fact- i read the letter and gave my opinion. get over it.

2nd simple fact: we're surrounded by staph. i got staph in a hospital years ago.

yes my thinking is what causes college atheletes to expect especial treatment.

Quote:
"When you have your budget slashed by 57 percent, you have to make choices," Sutton said, adding that the school would "love" to fly the team to distant road games, but that Grambling was contractually obligated to take its band, cheerleaders and dance team on those two trips. He said those obligations led to the difficult choice to put everyone on buses.

To me this is not a black/white/rich/poor issue. If these college kids had problems with Doug Williams getting fired, poor practice facilities, below standard laundry practices, riding a bus to Indiana for a game when the other team they played got to fly, etc etc etc...

There are people they can contact and processes they can go through to address things and work towards making them better.

For these kids to just decide they will not play a game they "are" being paid to play, in the form of their college scholarship is a disgrace. In all honesty they should all have their scholarships revoked and remaining season cancelled. Then recruit incoming freshman that want to play a game for their free education.

Everyone knows the benefits are different from Grambling St to Florida St or Alabama. You don't like them, go to another school. But you don't have any right to just boycott a college game, the team they were supposed to play just lost a huge chunk of its income from the loss of game tickets (yes they had to refund people), concessions, all the activities people pay for while in town, etc...

I get the kids are upset over all these things and they are real pathetic situations they are being asked to deal with. But this was not the way to handle it.

I'm surprised the penalty is only $20,000. They just lost a lot of people a lot of money and caused them a lot of hassle.

Easy solution. Kick the school out of the conference if they can't handle their own affairs. Problem solved for the other teams.

This is a bigger issue than the Grambling football team boycott...

the study is interesting. it seems to think there is a link between the revenues brought in from the athletic program and divides that # between athletes and assigns them each a value based on that:

Quote:
College football and men's basketball players at the NCAA FBS level have an average annual fair market value of $137,000 and $289,000, according to a report released Wednesday.
it then goes on the report that a scholarship does not fully cover costs of attending college by a few thousand $:

Quote:
The study also found athletic scholarships, with an average annual value of $23,000, did not cover full cost of attendance, falling $3,285 short during 2011-12.
unfortunately, that's not how academia works. for instance, when i attended college, i provided significant research on a history topic that the prof/acdemian then took into his own research and made new conclusions that brought both him and the university accolades.

i was not on a scholarship, i was paying my tuition in full as well as room and board, books, food, beer, etc.

Does the study give any numbers on how many of these kids would not be able to go to college if not for the sports programs?

On another note, I have two cousins that went to Notre Dame on a "full ride." Academic scholarships. They both had to pay room, books, and a variety of other expenses related to school.

i didn't come across that.

when i attended college, jason kidd was attending as well, he was in 1 class of mine. his study assistant attended the class for him and then taught him the lesson 1 on 1 later, while providing all the necc study tools and a clearcut explanation of the topics.

but not all the scholarshipped athletes received this level of "scholarship" getting jobs *watering the field* for $5000/month, etc.

That's the logic you use when you hire an intern :
They get all your knowledge for free!!

that's exactly right. but the knowledge level of an intern is not that much and more importantly, the deal is the intern in return gets experience, skills, contacts, resume juice, et al, on&on, etc.

just like academia, a football player gets a better chance at a college with a significant atheletic program already in place and a system that works and wins. if he's good, his contribution gives back to that system by his contributing to the team/system winning.

same at a higer level at the college,
with alumnis, etc. the earning potential of alumnis goes a long way in determining the *value* of a college. not to mention all the work students provide profs, who are more researchers at the university level than they are instructors.

Here's an idea for you : "Fuck Your Ideas".

The people actively engaged in the activities can decide what it's worth; not you.

Who the fuck are you to tell other people how to negotiate their deal?
You have nothing to do with their deals.
You're nobody, except a sideline whiner who can't make the program.

first things first though, there are online programs where you can get your ged, then depending on your abilities, you can apply to a college.

seems someone is confused re: what college is for. college is not about what the student gives the university and never has been. scholarships are stipends, nothing more, it's an award for performance and and incentive to attend a particular college. it's never been a salary or compensation for performance given back to the college.

here's a good blurb on what college is:

a college education has always been central to our nation?s commitment to enabling citizens to improve quality of life. College education is also instrumental to the individual ? to provide the opportunity to realize one?s dreams, to have the career that one desires, and to be a responsible citizen.
A successful college education gives confidence and ?power? to the individual in the form of knowledge, skills, competencies and credentials. All are important. - See more at: http://whichwaync.com/2012/07/18/a-j....Wtnq0ea7.dpuf

here's a good blurb on what college is:

You're basically a sad ass whiner who never got attention for reading books and you hate that people prefer to cheer for athletes instead of book readers.

you know who this really sucks for? all the non-scholarshipped. they voluntarily try out and *hopefully* make the team. poor people don't realize they should be getting their fair share of the revenue generated from tickets, television and t-shirts.

i wonder why they do that? especially when a few of their teammates are getting compensated for doing the same thing.

oh, i fucking know why, it's because they understand that college is an opportunity to advance yourself.

college is, and has never been, about what a student provides the college. it has always been about what the college provides the student.

Players who have to try out for a scholarship are loser's that only last 2 weeks before they go home.

130 freshman tried out with me in college. 110 were gone in two weeks.
Paying them min wage for 2 weeks for being of no use to the team is fair.

professional sports organizations don't even pay peeps to try out bra. you're saying some dipshit can tryout for an college team and he should get paid for not only that, but for being of absolutely no use to the team.

there's nothing fair about that. to anyone.

I wish I could remember a high school play.

The only people who remember high school are people who's life stalled after high school.
I remember college slightly better.

Now tell me about the English literature poem that changed your life forever.

No dip shit, you suggested they should get something for trying out.
I sarcastically agreed with your stupid fucking idea for a laugh.

Learn what sarcasm is.....oh wait, didn't your education teach you that already?

again, you fail at grasping a basic comment. this entire thread is filled with you doing that. maybe you're doing it to be sarcastic and that's cute and all. but one day you figure out sarcasm is usually only *got* by the one being sarcastic. it's not gotten, nor is it wanted to be gotten by anyone. people don't like hanging out with a sarcastic asshole, especially an uneducated one.

it's not appreciated, no one will hi-5 you or put a bunch of lollers up for ya bra for being sarcastic to them.

Bottom Line :

The pimps are mad because college athletes don't want to be the "hoe".
When your pimps make $6 Billion a year off you, then you're a BIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGGGGGGG hoe.

Look at this college coach bitch slapping his hoes :

The end.

Speaking of bright minds

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-...74--ncaaf.html

About a year ago, Ohio State backup quarterback Cardale Jones sent out this incredibly thoughtful (read: dumb) tweet that made the rounds on the Internet:
?Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain?t come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS?
