What kind of SSD to get?

I want to get a 60-64 GB SSD for my laptop: HP Pavilion dv6t-6100 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC.

What kind should I get? How do I know if it will work?

I don't need size. I use it primarily for a communication device and travel. I keep my larger files on various Internet-based drives for easy access.

I think your approach is wrong. What you need is a drive with highest possible read/write speed for a good price. For storage you don't want to buy SSD.. A 4TB 3.5" costs the same as a 0.25TB SSD... I might be wrong, but 64GB/128GB Samsung models from the 840 or whatever series are usually good. For example this model:
Samsung PRO Basic SSD 256GB SATA3 MZ-7PD256BW (840 Series, SATA 6Gb/s)
has both writing and reading above 500MB/sec and that's fucking fast.
I have different SSD units from the 840 series and 100% happy with them.

Don't buy the dirt cheap SSD drives, because they are crap and break fast. If you don't have recent a backup, you'll lose your data. Brands like Intel, Samsung and so on should be good.

I went with this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It dawned on me that I am always bitching about the too small SSD drive that I have installed on one of my other machines. 128 will be plenty for my laptop.

Thanks all.

I have a Corsair Neutron 256GB SSD and it's been really great for me...I also have a Crucial m4 SSD that is pretty solid as well.

Just check out benchmarks and reviews on some sites like Anandtech or Hardforum...or maybe see if you can weed through some of the reviews on Newegg and Amazon to get a better idea of what people really like.

I use intel since they became available.
All of 5 or 6 ones are still alive and no issues noticed.
Heard of some bugs in firmware some series had, but luckily haven't got any of these.
