Are Facebook's days numbered?

I know the internet is full of Facebook doomsday predictions from "experts",

but ignoring all the hysteria and bullshit, do you think that Facebook could soon be toppled as the most popular social network?

What would replace it? Google+ hasn't taken off as predicted, instagram is apparently the fastest growing social network but that's just images etc, twitter is huge but has a completely different target market.

As an industry which rely a lot on social media (depending on how old school you are) i though it would be interested to get some feedback from everyone?

I think Facebook isnt going anywhere even if the kids all leave because old people have embraced it. There are alot more of them and they have disposable income.

Facebook is here to stay, it just appeals to all ages and it's easy to use, plus it's already used by soooo many people.

Facebook is a place where most people go to brag... pics, locations, etc. It will continue to be popular for a good period of time.

I'm not sure.

I used to think that Myspace was king and nothing could top it. Now we have all moved over to Facebook. The kids have moved on, but that's mostly because they have a limited attention span and get bored easily. The adults have discovered that they have put a lot of work into Facebook; It's partially a photo album of our life (including photos of our meals!). I don't think adults would want to walk away from the effort they've put into it just to move to yet another platform.

No, Facebook has the full backing of the NSA, CIA and Homeland Security. It's a giant datamine to them.

didn't facebook release it's own article the next day, using that same formula, and came to the conclusion that Princeton University would be a ghost town by 2025?

The biggest threat to Facebook is "REALITY".

At some point people might just wake up and stop believing in the phony world they've created on FB.

People who join these sites have an inner desire to seek attention.
FB is a low achiever's dream where he/she can build a fantasy world of people who give a shit about them.
But none of it is reality.

They have 100 friends on FB; but they sit next to me at the bar every night alone.
They check their FB over and over again because "that's where their friends are".

One day these people may wake up and put the phone down and start a new life by talking to the person sitting next to them.

It would be cool to have a social media site where you could only see profiles of people who were within close proximity to you, but not necessarily your friends. If you were at a party or a bar for example you could scan the list and see who's single, who's interested in similar things as you, etc. and you wouldn't be distracted by people who couldn't be bothered to show up.

It would only work if participation was extremely high, so no way to get it going unless its done by the NSA.

I like linkedin for work contacts. It steals serious stuff and people out of fb.
About G+ someone uses it, also more serious people than gossip ones.
Then fb is left for not relevant dirt and sillyness only - main use: go spy who is the new bf of some ex gf from seeing pics she posts. Also useful for affairs: to get in touch with local engaged people in order to have casual sex, for free - this is very bad for pay dating sites.
Lots of people play silly games in fb too.

Of course as someone noted, fb is up just because NSA/CIA pays all the bills in exchange of reading all the info, I do not think fb could do real profit in any way anytime. If it was just a real company.

Not sure about dying, but I know a lot of people who used to be on it all the time giving up on it. They still go once in awhile, but not like they used too. I posted things all the time back when it was fresh. Now its just the same old shit on there so I go only 2-3 times a week. I've moved onto Twitter.

FB is a computer users social network. It worked very well when people all carried around a laptop. Today more and more people are ditching the laptop for the smart phone and tablet. With that, they want fast on-the-fly networks. Not a sit down network.

it will always be there but people will spend less time on it, its quite invasive now, too many ads, annoying apps, far too much info being shared. it is definitely wearing thin.

There's an app that does that I believe it's called Tinder.
