Just saw Namecheap is undergoing a major overhaul. I host three domains with them now but I just hate GoDaddy, Bob Parsons, and everything they stand for. Their name is stupid, they supported SOPA/PIPA, and ridiculous "hunting excursions" into Africa. Done. With. Them.

Any other recommendations? I've looked at Moniker which still feels antiquated. Namecheap seems to be the best option but I want to make sure I'm not overlooking any other good options.

I'm in the USA, by the way.

It's even cheaper if you keep a balance in there. I've basically migrated all of my domains from NameCheap, Dynadot, DirecNic, and Moniker to NameSilo and in the processing of migrating the GoDaddy ones to NameSilo as well.

For me, having a simple, efficient process for registrations, renewals and transfers is of utmost importance, along with quality of support. The fact they have a consistent pricing schedule and free whois privacy is certainly a nice addition.

All of these registrars trying to impress with a bunch of Ajax, Javascript, hidden sections only revealed on click, etc... usually end up making the process of domain management cumbersome moreso than efficient.

I like a nice simple interface, good support and efficient process. NameSilo beats all of the others by a country mile when it comes to simplicity and efficiency.

ETA, just went to NameCheap and my first impression is that it was an affiliate blog, not a Registrar. Once you spend a little time there, you realize it is indeed the registrar. I can see where some folks would get confused though.

I looked. And it's not exactly easy to see any of the prices unless you are a reseller and enroll into one of your reseller packages. I saw where .com's are $13.95 / yr to register. But I saw nowhere about the cost of domain transfer.

While I have no doubt about eNom's integrity as a registrar, I take pause when the costs associated for registrations, add-ons (like WHOIS Privacy), renewals and transfers are not readily visible -- why hide it or make it difficult to find, you know?

Am I just overlooking a page that lists all your prices? I can't find one.

ETA: For the record, you were the ONLY reason I stayed at Moniker as long as I did. The day you left (which meant any sense of reasonable expectations of support left with you), I migrated everything out.

It only takes a few minutes to create an account (and costs you nothing) at most registrars. Certain things will appeal to others that may not appeal to you, and vice versa. NameSilo has earned my business over the others such that I have left most of the registrars. BUT, what i like may not appeal to you.

Best thing is to just create an account at each one you are considering and browse around and just make your own opinion.

FWIW, my observations are this:

NameCheap: looks like a WordPress affiliate blog on first glance, not a registrar. If the frontend is indicative of what the forthcoming control panel will look like, then it's not something I'd likely bother with as I don't much care to click around to reveal hidden things.

GoDaddy: Domains are more expensive than they used to be, and they easily have the worst cluttered interface of the bunch. The idea of course is to get you to join the Domain Discount Club. Then there are the constant upsells. They do offer decent phone support though.

Network Solutions: still charging ridiculous prices for domains. But they do have a fairly nice control panel. For the price they charge, I would expect better support though than they offer.

NameSilo: completely uncluttered, straight-to-the-point interface and streamlined process for registrations, transfers and renewals -- with fully disclosed prices.

Moniker: Used to be a great registrar with great support. Then support seemed to only get done with Bari. Once she left for eNom, it was hit and miss with Moniker support, if you even managed to get a native English speaker you were lucky (I assume they switched to outsourced support).

Enom: I have not tried yet. I may consider giving Bari an email and see what she can do. I'll certainly not pay $13.95 for a domain registration which is apparently their standard .com registration.

Others here can likely give you their impressions of their favorite registrars. I have accounts at too many of them to list them all here.

I use moniker but I've been thinking about switching over to namecheap since someone told me they offer a free whois guard. Moniker charges $4 a year. Sounds like nothing but when you have a ton of domains it kinda adds up.

what you do with g daddy is relentlessly reg 1$ domains using coupon codes and next year move to who ever has the best deal which is name silo or name currently as stated.
also mention aussies fabulous still has $10 regs with privacy which you may say is no big deal however a good way to get into their exclusive parking program is to regs domains there.
generally you can apply and get accepted if you reg there
Deepbluesea llc [fabulous] is one of the largest generic domain owners in the world [think microwaves.com..just an example]
they do have nicer landing pages and pay more for right traffic in the parking world

i mostly use godaddy and then namecheap and moniker. what you said about them is pretty accurate however i couldn't care less what namecheaps main page looks like. their dashboard is functional and works easy enough. the only thing that seems like a pain is i am not sure if you can get auth codes in bulk. they are however just a reseller of enom so not their own registrar really.

things i like about godaddy, you can instantly approve transfers, when you own a lot of domains the price is low (8,47) total for renewals and you get a support guy who can help you with shit if you need it. i never had any problem with their interface though their constant changes are somewhat annoying.

moniker...well they haven't changed in years in regard to their interface but they still work fine as long as you never run into problems. as you said, support is lazy and stupid and just doesn't care.

now enom..i haven't used them directly. namecheap is a reseller of enom though. i might go for it at some point in the future. thing is you need to pre-load $5k to get the good pricing with their reseller program. sure you can go through bari and probably not have to do that but what happens when/if she leaves enom for another company or another venture altogether? thats the problem with going with someone's reseller account. if you have your own reseller account, then you don't have to worry about that.

dynadot's interface seems old and i never really got used to it or really gave it a chance either i guess. i guess you can get cheaper domains if you preload money or have a lot with them. same with fabulous.

That's the thing. It works great now. However, the dashboard is apparently getting reworked as well. In my opinion, if the new front end design is any indication of what to expect for the new dashboard they are working on, then I think the currently efficient functionality is likely to suffer -- certainly their front end's usability has taken a step backwards when compared to the efficiency of the previous design. It kind of looks like a smartphone app, not a website. (my opinion, of course)

I mainly use GoDaddy (500+ domains) as account security if you have your own account rep is flawless. They used to toss coupons out like crazy but seems to have pulled back on those recently but if ya have close to 300 domains their discount club makes it cheaper anyway and you can use a coupon to buy the discount club.

I really like Namecheap. Not crazy about the new site, but I think I've got it down now.

It's like being in a home and having move all your furniture around. Sucks for a couple of days...
