the most valuable govt issued currency is the kuwaiti dinar at $3.54 USD.

the price of BTC is $500 USD, is not backed by any law or govt, & has recently been hacked at the exchange level.

Do you really think computer code is so infallible as to be worth 500x the value of a dollar?

I've shifted much of my BTC to other currencies while the media misreports the exchange issues as problems with Bitcoin itself. Meanwhile, DOGE completed another wild ride upward, almost doubling my holdings in the currency. In & out is the way to make money during volatility swings.

Oranges are blue flavored and taste like lobster.

^ That makes as much sense as what that idiot above you quoted too, sounds like hes one of those who are pissed that the train left the station before they purchased their ticket.

The problem is that they are trying to mitigate the clusterfuck by releasing lies that are tanking the currency. That's what I believe the other poster meant.

if you mean wait for problems with Mtgox to get worse - thus a bigger drop in BTC - before buying then ok - as long as you realize that Mtgox could disappear and it wont touch BTC long term.

buy and hold - if it goes up keep buying - if it goes down keep buying..

only the delusional or uninformed think the bottom will fall out

Where do you exchange your DOGE and what currencies you change it for if you don't mind me asking?

I go DOGE to BTC, BTC to LTC, LTC back to BTC, etc. I use Cryptsy, Coins-e, and other exchanges.

How hard is it to cash out big USD value amounts of any of these digital coins? And how much below market price would you get should you find buyer(s) for large numbers of coins?

Not at all. I don't offer a premium for cashing them out in large batches; I don't care if a number of buyers or just one buyer do it. I do it via exchange, so it doesn't matter to me.

It also makes it very simple for me to file my taxes: short-term capital gains for quick trades, long-term capital gains for coins cashed out after a while, and regular income for proceeds from mining. Easy-peasy, that's what I did for 2013.

Is there a page that shows the exchange that has the lowest price one can buy at and includes all the major exchanges?

Thats what I do. I usually make the right calls and make good money.. I try not to hold the alts for too long and sometimes in the case of DOGE (I bought right at the beginning) I shot myself in the foot. But oh well there is always more opportunities.

Dude, seriously... Value of 1 currency unit is completely irrelevant. How people do not realize that?
It is just decimal points.
It can be 21,000,000 bitcoins of 600$ each or 21,000,000,000 of 0,6$ each. It would be exactly the same.
It is just denomination. Some countries change their denominations by many decimal points and that does not mean anything.
It is absolutely irrelevant how much one UNIT of currency is worth compared to other currencies.

I don't know what to think this time. I will always have 100-200 just sitting there just incase they ever go really high but I sold a lot at 650.
I have made enough that even if they were worthless the ones I have left it would not matter so I might not do what others would do.
I just looked and it is 618 now. Watch what it does at 3am est

It hit 935 (jan 6 @ coinbase) and hasn't gone over 900 since. Between 450-550 is where I'd buy for short term gains. Anything under 650 should be profitable long term. But, obviously you'd make more money if you can call the bottom.

The cool thing about bitcoin is that bad news, such as the transaction malleability (non)issue, or the silk road 2.0 hack, will always drive the BTC price down due to the knee jerk reaction of a million idiots. Fortunately there's another million and a half people looking for a bargain buy-in price, and that will drive the price right back up. It may crash for a day, or a week, or even a month, but there's a damn good chance it will rise again.

Pretty much assholes at MtGox trying not to take the heat for the way their system integrates with Bitcoin, so they throw bitcoin under the bus hard. However there is a problem that needs patching so the exploit against MtGox and others can't be used again. The way other integrate with the bitcoin system needs to be worked out.
