Do Doctors Get Re-Tested Throughout Their Career? - GoFuckYourself.com

I know many doctors go to medical conferences and keep learning but is there mandatory testing of all doctors/specialists every X years to see if they have kept up with current knowledge? When you go to see a doctor and you look at his diploma and it's dated 1974 is there any way to know if he's ever read another book/journal or got any additional training in the past 40 years?

This is absolutely correct. Each specialty will require a different amount of CME credits but in some states its not required after medical school, internship, and residency.

Well i saw in one medical themed tv serie how they had to went every x years to exam(plastic surgery)so i guess that apply for all medical branches.

Most doctors know how to spot symptoms and then which pharmaceutical drugs to prescribe to treat those symptoms, but when it comes to actual health they don't know a lot.

No. They dont get retested. CME points can be earned for attending a conference, no need to take a test. Just like with lawyers or architects. They dont need to be reevaluated to continue working in their profession. Some of them are working in micro niche so it doesnt make sense to test them in general knowledge.

I wish old people had to retake their driving test. I imagine they are responsible for more deaths than doctors who haven't been retested for 40 years.
