I've heard several variations of that same conversation in the past few years with different welfare people on the street.

It just blows my mind - the mentality of these people.

That's some seriously fucked up shit, but it happens more often than we would like to admit. I don't see how "getting a kid" gets you a raise - it's fucking expensive to raise a kid. And when the kids get much older it gets much more expensive.

My brother did something similar recently. He was unemployed and collecting his unemployment check. His gf - who might as well be his wife at this point - has a good job handing a tech department at a small non profit. They cut back on expenses, got a check every month, no problem. The checks just stopped and surprise, he quickly found a job.

Another friend has two boys and a girl. He lost his job and discovered unemployment, then welfare, and god only knows what else. He discovered the four of them on welfare with green stamps and various other programs including section eight and he's better off than working.

We need to limit all of this. Welfare (and even unemployment) should be a short term temporary assistance, not a way of life. If you are a parent and after six months cannot support yourself and your children, your children should go to foster care.

I think this is being a bit harsh. I work but also have two kids and receive child benefit for both.
If I am discussing it with (my wife for example) I am likely to say "We will get our payment on friday" and "now you have dropped a few hours we should be able to get more money".

Not that different from raise and paycheck is it?

I guess I always just associated paycheck as money you received for work done and the term raise as something you earned by improving yourself and or situation.

To me she got an increase to her check not a pay raise. I know it is just words, but it is how I guess I interpret it.

I'm not judging her (well maybe a little bit). I don't know her or much about her other than those few words I heard while in line. What I do know is that she had one kid that she wasn't able to afford to raise without assistance (shit happens, I understand that), and yet she still decided to have another. To me that is very irresponsible.

I have never suggested that people should make $20 per hour for working at a fast food place. just because I don't agree with how she is living her life doesn't mean I think she shouldn't be allowed to vote.

I have three kids, i receive tax deductions for them.
I think it is a good thing.
We also receive money each month for each kid. about 100 each. I put it into their Education Savings plan. It alone will pay for about 1.5-2 years of their University.

In korea having three kids gets us many discounts. Half price parking.
We also get a nanny several times per week. School is a bit cheaper etc

I realize this is different than some people getting welfare checks.
However i think the money is still well spent, the parents suck, but the kids are not at fault.
