Affiliate Sales / Business Development

What you do: (Specific job requirements and responsibilities)

Business Development:
Identify and pursue new business opportunities with the goal of driving new sales and revenue
Seek out strategic partnerships that are mutually beneficial and in line with company goals

Affiliate Sales & Management:
Research and acquire new affiliates for all SK Intertainment products
Coordinate and distribute new promotional materials regularly
Optimize accounts of exiting affiliates to maximize earning potential
Vet and approve new affiliates and monitor accounts for fraud

Media Buying:
Identify and engage new traffic sources for all SK Intertainment products
Purchase ads directly and through networks within profitable CPA targets

Ad Serving:
Conceive of and test new marketing campaigns (pricing, images, text etc.)
Manage hosted affiliate ads and media buys, optimizing CTRs and conversions
Set up ad campaigns, campaign ids and tracking links in an organized fashion
Work directly with ad sales team, fulfilling, optimizing and reporting on all media buys on SK sites

Manage all outbound affiliate offers: Optimize various offers, including landing pages and creatives to maximize revenue from "house" ad inventory

Who you are: (personal attributes key to this position)

Sales driven and focused on finding leads and closing deals
Able to coordinate and maintain multiple objectives simultaneously
Works independently, communicates priorities and hits deadlines
Knows a lot about all areas of the business and can wear various hats as needed
Friendly, likable and genuine

Experience:

Traffic Acquisition/Media Buying ? CPM, CPC, CPL
Ad Optimization and Campaign Management
Ad Serving Technology ? OpenX, DFP or similar
Web Analytics, specifically Google Analytics

Position Overview:

Full-time, flexible hours, 40 per week
Attend daily standup meetings
Attend adult and mainstream trade shows as needed

Respectfully, Sam, I'd encourage you to separate the media buying duties from those of business development. The media buyer can certainly work under the purview of the bizdev candidate, but the position is time-consuming and data-driven.

In order to successfully engage a media buyer, and to see meaningful results, this person will have to be developing experience-driven tests and using sophisticated tools to analyze the results. Having other duties (especially time-consuming duties) means that this buyer won't have the focus to make your media buying successful.

Done properly, and with an appropriate budget, you can make a killing with the right person.

I have a very strong candidate if you need a recommendation, but I know for a fact that they wouldn't want to do it unless that was the sole focus of the position.

Bang on! A media buyer is a full time job and it takes a unique person to be able to do it. I deal with them all day and it's easy to pick out the good ones vs the bad. Tough job.

Here's the difference: my reputation precedes me as a great programmer. I have demonstrated value time and time again to companies in this industry and elsewhere. There's been exactly one person who has had a problem with me, and just by coincidence, it's the guy who owes me $38,000 in unpaid wages.

Regarding the media buying aspect of this position, let me clarify. This is primarily an affiliate sales and business development position as the title suggests. An ideal candidate would have some media buying experience because it relates to the job. If I'm trying to land a potential large publisher as an affiliate, but they are not willing to work in that capacity, my next step will be to see if we can do an ad buy through them. Knowing how to calculate what it will take to back that out and being able to negotiate a reasonable deal based on that math is something that I'd like my biz dev guys/gals to be able to do.

I agree that a true dedicated media buyer is a full time job and I wouldn't ask that type of specialist to do these other tasks. At the end of the day though we are a mid sized company where people do wear multiple hats and my best and most successful employees are ones that have a diverse skill set. It never hurts to look for exactly what you want.
