Reddit ... Double Standards

http://www.wired.com/2014/09/celeb-pics-reddit-gold/

It's okay for Reddit to make money off of stolen content but the moment anyone else submits a link that has a 'tiny' ad somewhere on the page (even if the content is highly relevant) to a subreddit, they drop the BAN hammer and create new subreddit rules to stop those 'horrible' spammers.

Google, Youtube, FB, Reddit, Tumblr ... all profit from other people's content yet look down on anyone who wants to also make money.

As I understand, most subreddits (if not all) aren't run by employees but rather mods who just do it for fun, and many people that choose to be mods for fun usually do it because they enjoy the power trip.

I admin a few popular subreddits and I allow advertising... by me only. If somebody tries to invade my turf I will drop the ban hammer. If anybody is going to make money on my subreddit, it's going to be me.

The power trip part is right.

I know that the subreddits are run by mods who are not employees who can run the reddits however they like but it is the CULTURE of reddit that has spread throughout all users, mods, employees etc...

Ads are bad. Unless Reddit makes money.

What's the ratio of your posts to post count overall?

I see nothing wrong with this but how do you make sure Reddit doesn't see what you are doing and ban you. On their Reddiquette page they say they don't want you to submit only or mostly your sites.

Surely you aren't suggesting that a site populated by social misfits doesn't know how to play "fairly."

Same.

It's funny you have to explain these simple things on a webmaster board.

One link in the description using a url shortener. Then allow only imgur links for posts.

If you really want to corner the market, Send full length vids posted to report piracy.

I actually do spam reddit.

I am mad not because I can't spam, but because larger internet entities use theft and other people's content to build themselves up. Once they are big (and often even before) they suddenly become 'moral' and look down upon 'spammers' which is a loosely based term in their view to mean 'a person looking to make money other than us'.

Even if that person contributes to the site in a relevant and engaging manner it doesn't matter. He is labelled one of those dirty, disgusting 'spammers' that we need to rid the internet of.

It is this double talk I dislike from all the bigger sites now-a-days.

It is pure propaganda to make the general public believe that anyone who tries to make money (other than them of course) is 'bad' and 'spamming' and disturbing the peace and just ruining it for us all.

Actual spamming like getting 100 emails on Viagra or posting make-money-work-at-home links in subreddits created for 'art appreciation' is completely understandable. But not posting a link in a relevant subreddit that happens to have a continuation of the relevant content, at the center of the page with an ad or two that are not intrusive.

So yes I am angry at them for that.

That being said I still spam them everyday along with other Social media sites and will as long as it is profitable.

The Internet has been operating like this since before even onelist.com merged with eGroups.

Reddit is a pathetic group of adolescent masturbators. They pay for nothing and pirate everything. Then in some sort of weird online video game way they get points for disagreeing and ridiculing as many people as they can.

The only saving grace of Reddit is that if anyone has ever met any of these Reddit Losers (and I have). They would find that the average reddit user makes the "people at Walmart" look good (and almost normal)

Reddit doesn't claim any content or steal any content. It's purely user generated content. The whole fucking basis of reddit is to share content from around the internet.

Stop being such a fucking whine baby and play by their rules or don't fucking play in their sandbox. It's as simple as that.

Nobody that steals claims that they ever do!

Then what do you call making money off off other people's content? I mean that is what they do in large part by using Imgur - which by the way they own or have an interest in now so they do host content that their users take from other websites and host there.

Way to prove you don't understand or know what Reddit is. This is why you cannot get anywhere with the site.

Imgur was created FOR Reddit by a Redditor 5 years ago, not until April of this year did Reddit actually start having any significant interest in the site other than a nice clean place for people to upload their images.

And by the way, Reddit staff does not dictate what sites can be used to host the content that is shared on Reddit. Moderators of the subreddit do.

Fucking educate yourself, man. You're a god damn fool and you're just making an even bigger ass out of yourself in this thread.

Their sandbox, their rules. Deal with it, because bitching here isn't going to change that.

I suggest you learn Reddit and learn how to game the system, because there's many here, including me who have never ran into the issues you're bitching about.

You joined here a few months ago and are defending Reddit like a rabid hound.

You are not responding to my posts properly therefore not reading my posts properly and obviously don't want to have a discussion, only troll, insult and sling mud.

Your lack of respect is glaring and you only have one end it seems.

I have seen this behavior before in many message boards and comment sections.

From shills.

My arguing with you is now over.
