Ironman Race

Marking that bitch off my bucket list. I actually did it last sunday with Scuba Steve from GFY but they finally started releasing the pictures.

2.4 mile swim
112 mile bike ride
26.2 mile run

Took 12.5 hours or so.

I know there are a few of us on gfy! I am definitely looking forward to my next one.

Nice!! Iron Man is some serious shit!

I just started cycling again. I have a custom titanium LightSpeed bike that I just cleaned the dust off. Going to start cycling everywhere, like I did when I lived on the beach 15 years ago.

That's amazing and congratulations! That takes some self-discipline, training and dedication. I have a friend that just did the Iron Man in Kona back in October.

Well done! Love to read this sort of thing.

How did you pull up after and over the last few days? Also what recovery measures did you put in place after completing?

How long did you train and what was your weekly training schedule like for this?

I can't imagine building up that kind of endurance. I ride my bike around the neighborhood for 10 minutes and my legs are killing me.

Biking is the only exercise I've ever done where I can completely shut my brain off and nothing bothers me. Before you know it, you've gone 40-50 miles and time just flies.

Thanks, your friend is a true beast. Kona is only for the best of the best. Basically the top 30 out of 3000 from every race get invited to Kona.

About 5 days a week, waking up around 4:30am. Swimming 2-3 times a week, biking and running about the same.

I would average per week about 3-4 miles of swimming, 100 miles of biking per week and about 20 of running each week. I was always in good shape but this new workout regime caused me to lose about 20lbs and about 5% body fat.

Rest days are just as important. As for after the race, I did some light swimming and water walking which sped up my recovery. The day after I had some crazy neck pain and my legs were complete garbage.

You are a gangster!!

So impressive!

What makes it so cool, is its not just words on a posting board. You actually have to train hard to finish last place in these types of competitions. So everyone here actually knows you are very for real when you make any statements about your training. And you actually have pics to also back up what you say? Crazy!!

Good job!!

Thanks a lot, the mental toughness aspect was one of the most difficult. Having to force your ass out of bed rain or shine and often into bed on a friday/saturday night is a lot harder than it sounds. I also couldn't spar much in BJJ, I didn't want to chance any sort of injury that would sideline me.

haha thanks, I actually signed up today for a race that requires me to fund raise for entry. I just paid the fundraising portion myself so I wouldn't have to bother anyone. I, like many others are tired of people begging for stuff on facebook every 5 minutes.

San Fran has some of the best races out there. I did the alcatraz one in august. I missed out on the lottery for the 2015 'escape to alcatraz' triathlon and I am kind of bummed.

OUTSTANDING!!! I've done 3 of those 12 mile tough mudder races in the last couple of years, and I'm doing the full Miami Marathon in January, and then the short olympic style tirathalon in April (only 0.93-mile swim | 24.25-mile bike | 6.2-mile run, just a short little nothing compared to that ironman!!), so I have at least a small idea of what training you went through to get to THAT level! I'm super impressed dude!! Great work!

Thanks! I am also doing the Marathon in Jan. It will be nice to see my time when I don't have to bike and swim before ;)

Sounds like you are doing the South Beach Triathlon. It's an amazing event and to this date, the largest attended triathlon I have done. I am also doing it this year. Although .93 /mile may not seem like a lot, this is happening in the ocean and last year the waves were nasty and people were quitting in the swim portion.

My advice for the run portion would be to start training on the sand now. A big part of that course was hard Sand and it was killing people that were not used to it (myself included).

Good advise about the sand, I already do train in the sand. (I run in Vibram 5-fingers, so that makes it easier, since my running style changed by starting to run in those 4 years ago)

Are you doing the ING Jan 25th? Maybe we should run it together! Frankly, I'm simply trying to get in under 4 hours, since this is my first marathon since I was 25 years old, but right now my training times are on track for a time of around 3:50. What do you expect to run it in?
