Here's why you don't negotiate with hackers. Nice work Sony.

'The Interview' -- Hackers Make New Demands of Sony Pictures | TMZ.com

Freaking morons.

For what it's worth: There are 1000s of screeners of this movie out there already in public. I will guarantee you that this is all over the Internet before we go to Vegas for Internext.

T-Minus 30 days until this is all over every piracy site on the planet, and I guarantee you, none of them are going to be afraid of some Koreans with keyboards.

I read that they didn't send out screeners, and tend to believe this.

If they did, it would have been on the internet already. Not a single torrent out there.

Sony had a fantastic opportunity here and they blew it. Had they released the film, everyone would have rushed to the theatres to see it, even if it was a bad movie.

Someone on the news yesterday said that Kim Jong Un wants to be noticed, to be taken seriously, and show his people that he has power and respect on the world stage. It seems that he now has what he wants.

The worst thing is, there's not much the US can do about it.

Oh - and now Cyber attacks have gone way way up. Watch the cyber attacks LIVE. Open your CHROME browser and go to Norse - IPViking Live

Sick.

The turmoil that is going on inside Sony right now will definitely be enough to get the movie out of the company.

You have 1000's of people with access to the movie, or had access to the movie. It's always the employees that leak stuff to piracy. This one is it's own special shit cake, and someone is not going to like having their personal info out there.

It's a guarantee. When is the real question.

Why would they want to? 420 movies don't involve national security...

The clip with Kim Jung um or what ever his name is getting killed has already leaked to the Internet. I posted a topic a day or two ago with the video but youtube took it down. So it's already out there, the part they didn't want the world to see.

He was in a helicopter standing at the side door and a missile hits the chopper then it explodes. It looked like a 1980s b film. Was pretty bad cgi and obviously low budget. Kinda looked like something made in Bollywood.

Guilty as charged then. I tend to be super cynical about such things.

But tell you what, no bullshit: If the N. Koreans are saying things like they will hit movie theaters in response to The Interview being released then this is no longer about hackers, publicity or anything else. It is now a National Security issue and Sony should release the film TODAY.

Just release it VOD. I'd pay the 10 bucks and so would a lot of other people.

North Korea was not going stage terror attacks in the US over this. Think about it. They haven't done anything in the last few years except look like the laughing stock of the world. So now they're going to stage coordinated terror attacks in the US against movie screenings? Nothing was going to happen, even if they are the culprits in the hack --- but I tend to believe it a group of activists using N Korea as cover.

Stupid question..
Why when "GOP" hacked Sony back in late NOV (Nov22nd I think)
Did they only demand money (before releasing anything online) and not until Dec 16th did they even mention the movie...

I bet that doesn't happen.

I don?t think anyone is going to touch it. If netflx took it, they would be next. A pay site like Netflix going down? Could you imagine the financial loss risked for one video? I doubt it will go anywhere. Pretty sad I?m my opinion.

But if you really want to get it out; Tube sites and torrents!! lol

But something tells me that all of the tube sites would manage keeping that movie from being uploaded by their users.

We will see.

If a bunch of bearded pedophile worshiper goat fuckers could fly two planes into WTC, why wouldn't NK be able to bomb a few theaters here and there? Way easier.

Ok, maybe they could -- but WOULD they? North Korea haven't attacked us yet, as much as they rattle their sabres in the past....and now they would do it for a movie? They may be a little crazy, but no way they're that stupid...especially if they're sophisticated enough to stage this hack.

After reading the many comments...

1. Sony did not just give-in. The theaters would not show the film, so blame them.
Up until show time, sony was committed to spend 90 mil on promotions.

2. This has most likely been a Russian know-how/help given to N. Korean hackers.
N.K. has many good hackers, but not on this level. Outside help was required.

As I have said for the last dozen years....

Data Security are 2 words that have no business being used in the same sentence together. They will never have a relationship in any way at any time.

Wrap your mind around that !

Sony did not give in to hackers. The theaters refused to show the movie. Not sure how this obvious fact which was clear from the start got so twisted. Even Black Jesus said he thought Sony made a mistake and suggested Sony come to him as if he can do anything about the situation.

This movie will still be released in the theaters. If not, it will be HUGE for online distribution when they go that route and release it there.

I just looked now and there still no legit version of this movie. Cam, screener or otherwise.

The Interview is currently in a weird limbo where it?s probably the most famous movie in the entire world, and yet, no one can pay to see it. Also, it's worth noting that SONY owns Crackle, which is the #3 video streaming service if I'm not mistaken.

might be worth noting also....

Quote:
As if all this wasn?t enough, it?s now speculated that Sony?s decision was rooted in the financial much more than in the political. One news outlet is reporting that the only way for Sony to recoup their investment through an insurance claim is to dump the film entirely, a total write-off needed to qualify.

I'm of the opinion that is was an inside job. Not an over the net hack.
I think that a private contractor or even a sony employee is responsible. They might very well work for the GOP or whatever...or even take work from Fat boy in North Korea, but I think the hack was an inside job.

The best hacks are always physical and done with someone who is on location.

Unless of course Sony actually keeps all their private info on public servers, but i highly doubt it. Even small time operations know to have their critical info off the network.

Sony should hack them back and finally put to rest the myth that he indeed starred in "gangnam style"

I agree, of course because I've been saying this all along. It doesn't smell like state sponsored shenanigans. Now we have this...

North Korea says did not hack Sony, wants joint probe with U.S.

Could this be an event that actually starts a dialogue between our countries? Wouldn't be the weirdest thing that's ever happened.
