Great news. I'm sure it will be playing at one of the indies in NYC. Likely Sunshine or the Film Forum.

This better send a message to every other American company.

Don't puss out on over 100 years of standing up for being able to say what you want, when you want it; art or reality. It's all the same.

We don't negotiate with terrorists or midgets.

This wasn't Sony being bitches. This was every major movie chain dropping the movie, which is why you now see the indie theaters picking it up instead of the majors. My guess is the majors will pick it up again in a few weeks anyway.

Oh no I get that.

From a PR standpoint they came off like a bunch of pussies.

They should have said "We will not be censored, we will distribute this movie through ANY distribution channel that will take it. It is art. It is free speech."

Instead, they gave hackers around the world tremendous power.

They made a big mistake.

Live and learn.

Actually I disagree. They may have fucked up by giving in the first time. But now it'll probably break records at the box office. EVERYONE will want to see it, no matter how shitty. If anything, I'd say great save, way to make lemonade!

That's all fine and well except for the fact that they are a business that still needs to recoup a high 8 figure investment and are entitled to figure out how to do that and take time to pause and reflect on how to work around an extremely unusual problem.

It has nothing to do with "freedom" or "censorship"

Not really. Your point above was valid. Executives would be upset, media heavy hitters they work with are upset. A severe blow to the reputation of the Sony super conglomerate.

Sony is a multibillion-dollar empire. One single movie that *might* net 7-8 figures is a drop in the bucket and not worth the loss in reputation, and even quite possibly, other deals.

It wouldn't surprise me. But that remains to be seen. If no Sony exec details leak out after the release, then we'll know for sure.

The bottom line is that nefarious internet terrorists outside of the United States successfully censored, albeit temporarily, what American's can and can not see. That was a victory for them, and the United States is seen as a weaker country now because of it. Just wait and see where this goes in the future. There is a "chink in the armor" now.
