Ask the people in Nebraska who are losing their land by eminent domain so a Canadian company can build the pipeline.

from what I gather, that's ~90 people.

i remember growing up when my folks had our swimming pool put in, I couldn't get the slide I wanted because it would have been in the eminent domain area of our backyard.

Congrats to the democrats. That old bastard Mitch McConnell can go fuck himself. Nobody needs that pipeline.

On a different note, last night on Vice they explored the aftermath of the BP Gulf oil spill. What a fucking tragedy it is. If you haven't seen it yet, watch it. Very sad.

again, the implication here is it is OK for dems to clog government because, hey, mitch is a bitch and fuck the people because, hey we're democrats and know better.

Most people want it because they're uniformed.

There's already many major oil pipelines...what's so important about this one, which will only create a handful of permanent jobs? You have to ask yourself why Republicans in congress want it so badly ---- Is it because they give a shit about anyone who needs a job? Or is it because they stand to line their own pockets with money paid to them on the sly by oil companies?

I'd say it's more likely they got paid.

The difference is dems are blocking over something worthwhile, like environmental concerns.

When Republicans try to block something, there's always a reason like not wanting underprivileged people to have healthcare, or not wanting women to have control over their own bodies, or wanting to make sure Wall Street has no regulation so they can run wild, or not wanting black people to be able to vote against them. Everything they stand for seems to make them look like a bunch of jerk-offs.

Is it most likely some conservative politicians are doing something because they have a passion for it, or that they stand to make some money from it?

If they want to spend so much money on an election, how much could they possibly stand to make if they have a Republican president and congress? They seem to be doing alright regardless of the political slant holding office. For dicks like them, too much is never enough.

Here's what I don't get, a good economy would put more money in the hands of the folks? I think everyone can agree with that.

American Business has moved a lot of their business overseas, Why? It's cheaper!
I think everyone can agree to that.

Right now America has one of the highest corporate tax rates in the world, Means less profit for companies, more for taxes that the government collects.

Seems to me that if the government wants more taxes, it would want more companies to collect from, if that's the case, why is Obama rallying to raise the taxes on business? That's what stated the Revolutionary War!~

That just shows the comparison with the Pipeline, he's playing to his agenda, not what the people want.

More oil production getting refined means less dependency , what is wrong with that? That's why gas prices have dropped, We are producing more on PRIVATE lands and that has lowered prices, if not for that, because of Obama denying so many permits to drill on public and federal lands, the prices would be doomed to keep rising. Shipping cost wold rise even more raising the prices even more on everything...

OPEC is why gas prices are so low! OPEC ramping up production and flooding the market with cheap oil is why American oil is going to be UNPROFITABLE until it's once again in the 100 dollar / barrel range.

Incidentally, under Obama there is more oil production in America than ever in history. Talk about him not signing permits all you want. It's like talking about Babe Ruth leading the strikeout record and ignoring the home run record from the same season. Politics.

Wrong! Oil production is up in the US. Opec is not ramping up production. The us is. OBAMA if it was up to his agenda would have our prices go higher by decreasing oil permits. The wells that are producing on federal land were put in place by clinton and bush.

Dyna, why do you say it's Clogging the government? The Oil industry has a terrible reputation when it comes to cleaning up their messes. Scientists overwhelmingly agree that man made climate change is warming the planet. The pipeline crosses extremely fragile aquifer that many states rely on for drinking water. There are legal disputes to the land it uses. It increases the US dependancy on foreign oil once again, etc etc etc.

Don't you think that these issues should be addressed, properly?

No, it was on Vice, yesterday. But yes it is also a lot about corexit. According to scientists, corexit (1) is used to force the oil to sink to the bottom, meaning the oil is STILL THERE, and (2) increases toxicity by over 50 times. Next, people in the Gulf are getting sick. Skin Leasions, breathing problems, cancers, tumours, etc. There are also tumours being found in almost 50% of all fish from the golf.

Actually I was there a long time ago, and it was beautiful place. Now, many of the beaches have fresh oil washing up. The marsh lands are caked with oil too. Yes, today, now, still.

My beef isn't just with the pipeline. The oil industry, in general, is irresponsible, dangerous, and doesn't give a fuck. Maybe if they were made to get their shit together they would deserve more business. Currently though, they should be very heavily regulated, heavily taxed, forced into a minimum 10 year spill-free record of perfection, and forced to pay for every single clean-up until every single area is pristine and spotless, where life can grow once again.

Wait.. the Democrats are the minority..how can it be their fault if the Republicans whom are the majority in both houses can't get shit done? Are you saying Republicans are incapable of working with the minority? You blamed Democrats when it was Democrats in control of the Senate and Republicans in control of the House (50/50 control). Now Republicans run both and you still find a way to blame Democrats..

oh humm.. see how that works? Also who are these "most" Americans.. No one I know wants it..

You might expect the biggest foreign lease owner in Canada's oil sands, or tar sands, to be one of the international oil giants, like Exxon Mobil or Royal Dutch Shell. But that isn't the case. The biggest non-Canadian lease holder in the northern Alberta oil sands is a subsidiary of Koch Industries, the privately-owned cornerstone of the fortune of conservative Koch brothers Charles and David.
Correction : An earlier version of this piece said Koch Industries was the largest lease holder in Canada?s oil sands. On a net acreage basis the company is the largest American and foreign holder of leases in the region, but it might narrowly trail two Canadian companies overall.

But still.

I have a feeling we are about see a game of "What comes around goes around." After an historic number of filibusters by the republicans, the democrats are now likely going to return the favor. Also, I saw a news story today where the headline was how Obama had already threatened to veto pretty much everything the republicans were working on.

And so it continues. One party obstructs then the other obstructs and nothing meaningful ever really happens.

2 Problems with that: First, Oil companies pay the least amount of taxes in the US. Next, why buy all that oil from Canada (creating Canadian Jobs in Canada and taking away jobs from Americans) when you get pump your own oil? The US is now the biggest exporter in the world, right? Why now the big push for the pipeline? It doesn't make any sense unless someone rich enough, has a huge amount to lose unless this gets done. See?

it's actually been corrected yet again, kocks are maybe 4th largest lease holder, the biggest are still canadian. But who do you want to have holding those leases? muslim extremists or your friends to the north?

In the long run it pays to keep your assets and deplete your neighbors. Think what you'll be paying us someday to buy oil when yours is gone.

I think it's just fine if the bill is blocked. The pipeline does nothing for me, it does nothing for you. It does nothing for anyone but big oil companies and it take's people land away..

Currently though, they should be very heavily regulated, heavily taxed, forced into a minimum 10 year spill-free record of perfection, and forced to pay for every single clean-up until every single area is pristine and spotless, where life can grow once again.
the gulf of mexico is beautiful? come on now.

no. nothing more should be done to clean the gulf.. nothing. we made it worse trying to clean it. we didn't learn from exxon valdez, the clean-up fucked that place up much worse too. the only option is to let nature sort it out.

are you aware the mississippi river dumps as much toxins into the gulf as the bp spill did on a DAILY basis?

don't get me wrong, the gulf is fucked up, but I am sayuing it's fucked up more than it already was. it's a toilet. I'm prolly got cancer already from all the gulf seafood i've eaten. bottom feeders too, shrimp, crab and crawfish

are the motives of your elected officials important to you? because the dem's motive for clogging this bill was to gotcha the repubs, not because this bill isn't perfect.

No it wasn't.. that's what you are making it out to be to fit your narrative. Democrats from the beginning have NOT supported the pipeline.. Don't make stuff up..

i'm going by the liberal news media reports trumpeting that, such as the one I've posted here. I'm sure I can find a juicy quote or 3 from the actual dems, in addition to the dozens of lib news media outlets doing the same.

or you can simply see my point, dems = repubs in 2015. same shit others and I have been extolling here. dems are just as bad as repubs, but worse really because y'all are all mad because you don't have a koch brothers in your corner funding your agenda!

are you aware that dems have tried to amend this bill more times than they tried to amend each and every bill in 2014 combined?
