Track & convert old affiliate referral link codes?

An affiliate program changes an affiliate's referral link codes but the affiliate doesn't update their links for several years. The old links still work, still have what was the correct link code & affiliate ID# prior to the change, and still lead to the affiliate program's join page.

That said, in order to properly credit the affiliate's account properly, how difficult is it for the affiliate program to track & convert the traffic and/or sales sent via the old affiliate referral link codes, going back several years?

THANKS!

It is not hard to do for the provider of the affiliate software if they can get the exact information about the old linking code. We do this often when moving a program from for instance a nats based system to our MPA3 software.

What if, the old linking code is from one affiliate program that was acquired by and merged with the affiliate program that changed the code...What exact information about the old linking code is needed?

They would only need to have a table with the new affiliate identity code along with the old.
PHP Code:
SELECT new FROM affiliate.mergerTracking WHERE old=12345;

new
asfd6gL

do something with $new
Not PHP but the highlights are good
The logic is simple.

The affiliate details would need to be added to the established tables of the acquiring platform.

About any affiliate software will allow you to do the switch (and track sales from old & new affiliates) without any big issues.

So, you're all telling me there's a chance! ;)
However, after contacting the acquiring affiliate program via email last year, they told me to update my links. Yes, great...no problem...I'll update the links but what about any traffic/sales that may have been sent via these old links for over 5+ years?? So far, my repeated inquiries over the past few months have been ignored.

So, I'm clear on this...These correct old link codes & ID, still land on the old affiliate programs join page but DO NOT show any code or ID in the address bar i.e. "ABC.com/join.php?".

Would the established tables suggestion still work in this situation?

Show me all the scripts and databases then pay me for the time to figure it out -- LOL -- I don't need the extra money or extra work (empty offer).
  1. First question would be if your raw hits and page loads are being recorded and shown in that new sponsor's stats: that means the codes are tracking in the new stats.
  2. If you are sending traffic and your stats are -0-0-0-0-0- ... then it's a problem.
  3. If you don't know from your end that you are sending traffic (and traffic that you can account for) ... then it's a problem. You need a way of scripting links and counting clicks on your end.

I have no idea of the specifics.
Why the URL is trimmed and how, what is done with the referrer's string?
Is it captured and used in the scripts and how?

If you are an affiliate that hard coded his links then you may have a lot of work to do ...

No, raw hits and page loads are not being recorded and shown in that new sponsor's stats...
If they were, I wouldn't be here. ;)

Apparently, it's a problem.

The only way I know from my end that I am sending traffic is by clicking on the links but how can I account for it...?

Good questions...But who can answer them and are they worth asking?
