:stop Seems there is a video from a passengers cellphone from the Germanwings crash

Inside the A320 - Exclusive: The final moments before the crash

Quote:
Paris Match and Bild obtained a video taken during the final seconds of the fated Germanwings flight 4U9525 and found among the wreckage by a source close to the investigation. Its origin ? a cell phone ? was clear. The scene was so chaotic that it was hard to identify people, but the sounds of the screaming passengers made it perfectly clear that they were aware of what was about to happen to them. One can hear cries of ?My God? in several languages. Metallic banging can also be heard more than three times, perhaps of the pilot trying to open the cockpit door with a heavy object. Towards the end, after a heavy shake, stronger than the others, the screaming intensifies. Then nothing.

This version of the final moments of the Germanwings flight is confirmed by another element we recently obtained: the information from the ?Cockpit Voice Recorder,? one of the A320?s two black boxes. This one recorded the sounds and conversations in the cockpit. Its contents were described in detail by a special investigator. Here is his account.

Imagine being so depressed and angry, you need to take 150 people with you. It's pretty unfathomable that someone like this could slip through the cracks.

The odds of something like this happening are so small it doesn't bother me. CNN needs to spend a solid week reporting on the very real chance you might die in an auto accident by someone using their phone and not a single plane wreck.

I can guarantee you the terror just before the crash can't be worse than immediately after a wreck when you are crushed, in massive pain and know you are going to die in a few minutes. Or if you do survive you're trapped in the bloody remains of the car with dead passengers waiting for EMS to arrive.

Watch the proposed new regulations, lawsuits, etc the plane incident will bring but no attention given to the fact recent studies show "distracted driving" is more prevalent and dangerous than drunk driving.

A horrible way to go is what happened to the Jordanian Pilot that got burned alive. Over here, you're alive and gone in a split second without any pain. I don't think its so bad if you analyse it that way.

it doesn't matter what the odds are. the mere fact that there are odds means it's an important aviation issue that needs addressing.

The most dangerous aspect of flying is driving to and from the airport.

You can reach a point of diminishing return when trying to prevent air crashes. The time/money may be better spent looking at other easily corrected safety problems who's impact will be immediate.

there used to be times when flying was a lot more dangerous than today - because of technical problems - and only because they spent millions on investigating every single crash it is as safe as it is today. thankfully.

technical issues rarely are the cause of car crashes, also cars are technically safer today than they have ever been.

there are just way more idiots behind a steering wheel than on a pilots seat

not from the povof an airline and the industry.

certainly creating a security protocol that doesn't lock a captain out of his own cockpit @ 30k feet is time money energy and resources well spent.

I strongly disagree that "everything is fine and dandy" in the commercial aviation industry.

The fact that pilots only have to go through psychological screening once and from that point on they're on an honor system (self-report if you are being treated for mental issues) should be cause for worry.

And that's just one example.

I cannot imagine this. I am an upbeat, optimistic person. I didn't win an expensive item on Ebay last week and instead of being upset I just smiled and thought to myself "I hope the winner enjoys it as much as I would have".

Because not getting the winning bid on a trinket is clearly the same as suffering from a mental illness you twit.

It's an analogy from one person's perspective...no one claimed that it is something that is clearly the same. Furthermore, who's to say that the mentally disturbed person would never get seriously depressed after losing the bid on an ebay trinket?

This is worse than a suicide bombing or a terrorist act.

This guy murdered 150 men, women and children because he was an ass-hat who hated himself -- he had no ''cause.'' Luckily this sort of thing is a very rare occurrence but I am sure that is no conciliation to the victims' families ...

The video is a fake.. It's all over the news here now (The Netherlands). It's a video from another airline that was flying through some heavy turbulence.

whoever thought it would be funny to claim that video is real should be dropped from 30.000 feet without parachute

True but when driving you can make choices that increase your chance of survival, even stop the car if you really need to. When flying you have no choices to make except to either freak out or not freak out. Most of the flight you have no idea what's going on at all, if you're even going the right direction, if everything is fine or if you are moments from death.

mental illness is tricky to diagnose & to treat. it does rely strongly on the mentally ill to be fully honest about it. this dumbass didnt want to address it & let his illness get the better of him in a lonely moment.

but making a blanket ban on anyone who may or does exhibit any mental illness is a fools errand. most people are not clinically insane. many people are temporarily depressed due to seasons, job, wife etc. lots of doctors analyzed adam lanza. that didnt prevent tragedy, nobody saw it coming. Just like nobody saw this coming.

there is no good solution to mental illness. really need the patient to make the effort to get diagnosed, take meds avoid triggers etc. hard to do, & impossible for outside people to assess danger. the deadliest people are the quiet ones, not the obvious nutjobs.
