Streaming to multi TVs - what do you use?

I'm moving into a new place next month and I'm going to ditch cable. My internet speed should be decent, so I'm looking to stream all my content, which consists mostly of Netflix & HBO Now (using a VPN, which does slow things down a bit), NFL.com & MLB.com.

Currently I stream to a couple of iPads, I'm now looking at streaming to 6-7 TVs. Not all the TVs will be Smart TVs, but all will have HDMI ports.

Is the easiest/cheapest/most effective way Google Chromecast? I'd really like HD, especially for the sports. Any tips from your setups?

Thanks.

Chromecast is ok if you have decent wireless and are just using netflix. I tried streaming large files off my media server to it with mediabrowser and it couldnt handle it. Seemed like it wanted to convert a lot of surround formats to 2 channel as well. I guess it depends on what app you are streaming from. Also they don't support 5 ghz wi-fi.

I just use pcs at every tv with cat 6 cables.

i ordered top of the line android tv box, they did mention it can use b/g/n but didnt mention the wifi top speed/connection speed and when i tried to connect to my 300 mbps wifi , it was out of reach as router was in another room , so i ordered 300 mbps repeater and to my surprise the box only connected at 65mbps, even i placed box near router.
lesson learnt. now i am digging those octa core tv box.

OP get some high speed router like

Linksys AC1200 / AC1600 and make sure your media server has gbps network port, and then you can do anything.

We have a 100+ year old house with walls that have got to be a foot think. This is THE ONLY option we've tried in the past 5 years that gives us a solid connection from one end of the house to the other, covering all three floors and even the basement.

Got it at $100 off too

Hi Randy

I took a different approach. I have 2 monitors in my home office, and am adding a 55" smart TV in my office, another in the living room, and 4 more smart TV's in the next month or so.

I have 2 drops of Cat 6 1TB Ethernet at each TV location. One for the TV itself, and one either for Apple TV or chromecast or future use. The living room TV has a single HDMI. I should have got 2 but its not the end of the world. I'm using the AppleTV mostly to mirror my computer desktop but honestly I don't know if you need this or Chromecast if you have a smart TV.

The reason why I did it this way is so that each TV can display different content from different devices, or different content from the same device (dvr). For example, I can watch normal TV sent over HDMI from a DVR, while another TV watches other content via Ethernet from the same DVR. One TV can watch Netflix or other content with the smart TV's internal software, or from Apple TV (or Chromecast, etc).

I was going to go all wireless but the distance between devices made me wonder if it would work well enough, especially since I wanted to put the router in a closet basement. I didn't want to have any routers visible, etc, but I wanted to get the best possible speed.
