Because Americans behavior/feelings towards guns or weapons in general, is closely related to how they act when they "liberate" other nations.

Maybe, they have gun envy ...

America is a violent place
Quote:
Fact number 1: Brazil has the most gun murders in the world (around 36,000 people in 2010), but the U.S. has the most among industrialized nations (9,146).

The irony? Brazil actually has much stronger gun control laws than the U.S.

Some do seem obsessed, I'll give you that, but for most I'd say it's a case of being "critical of" rather than "obsessed over."

The problem with many of the foreign critics though is that few if any really know "how it is" in the USA with regard to guns, gun ownership, their indominable defense of their rights and constitutional amendments, etc. To know that and furthermore even begin to understand it is to first know their history... all of it.

Some say "Well I've been in the US, I've visited there for ___ weeks before"... sorry, that doesn't qualify you as informed enough to sit in judgement. I've lived 90 mins from the US border all my life, I've travelled all over that country over the past several decades and know many dozens of Americans, both friends and relatives. And in all that I know for sure only 2 things on the gun issue --- Banning isn't the answer there, and it never will be.

The liberals that want a ban on guns are idiots, they keep wanting more gun laws, yet never intend on enforcing them. Liberal judges are always letting gun offences get off with a plea bargain. If gun laws were enforced, the murder rate would drop. Use a gun in the commission of a crime and get 10 additional years, do that and see how fast gun related crimes drop!

That is right; we care. In big picture we have organizations like UN to help people, Americans too. Just ask and there will be all sort of methods from humanitarian bombing to dropping food packets.

Over 60 million people own various rifles, shotguns and handguns in America -- we are not all shooting people!

Maybe 3% or less of the gun owners are criminals (their guns are off the books anyway) the other 97% need to deal with that 3% element (or less) and have legitimate reasons for gun ownership. Gun criminal incarceration rates USDOJ --Bureau of Justice Statistics 2002, a little dated and with all that has gone on with terrorism and our internal politics of decisiveness, it may be worse today. If handgun sales were restricted to people issued CCW permits I would have no problem with it. Rifles and shotguns are part of Americana for hunting and property protection. AR 15's and other assault rifles do serve a purpose: They keep the government constitutionally proper.

Gun regulation of the Third Reich On second thought ... I'll take my chances ...

Quote:
The poll also found that 22 percent of Americans personally own a firearm, down from a high of 31 percent in 1985. The percentage of men who own a firearm is down from 50 percent in 1980 to 35 percent in 2014, while the number of women who own a gun has remained relatively steady since 1980, coming in at 12 percent in 2014.

Try Newsweek for only $1.25 per week

The 2014 survey showed that roughly half of Republicans live in a household with at least one gun, The Associated Press reports, which is about double the rate among Democrats or independents. Though principal investigator Tom W. Smith says his analysis didn’t focus on political affiliation, a basic run of the numbers suggests that roughly 25 percent of Democrats and 23 percent of independents live in a household with at least one gun.

Unlike you (maybe), we are stunned at how every time there is more horrific gun violence, the NRA appears to be out in full force, encouraging people to buy more guns.

I agree. Someone who wants to ban all guns is wasting their time - it can't and shouldn't be done. However, background checks are a good idea. Guns should be kept out of the hands of criminals. Limits should be placed on clips. High power assault rifles are sexy to some but should only be allowed at ranges or other designated safety zones.

1: Any State requiring a "CCW Permit" is in violation of The Second Amendment so by Federal Law, any legislation requiring them is null and void.

2: An AR-15 is NOT an "assault rifle", it's a Modern Sporting Rifle. Please stop fueling the ignorance with that term.

^^^^^THAT is the ONLY answer that doesn't lead to another Revolutionary War.

Prison sentences are supposedly served to "repay your debt to society." That means when a convicted felon is released, they should have a clean slate. This includes restoring things like voting and gun rights. Being a convicted felon doesn't mean you don't deserve the same God given right to self preservation. Luke 22:36 "...and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." The Biblical day's sword is today's gun.

If we can't trust a released convicted felon with a gun then we shouldn't trust them with a hammer and they should still be locked up.

The bottom line is exactly what Vendzilla said. Enforce the laws we have and stiffen their penalties.

Background checks don't help. They have been in place for decades now with little to no difference. Criminals belong in jail where there are no gun stores...Not even black market ones.

There should be no limit on "clips" and anybody who ignorantly refers to a magazine as a clip doesn't belong in a gun debate.

"High power assault rifles" are regulated by the National Firearms Act of 1934. That regulation is literally a crime on it's own. WTF do you mean they should only be allowed at ranges or other designated safety zones? Where are you seeing these weapons being used other than where you describe? They don't even allow "regular guns" in Colorado movie theaters or schools....Look how well those laws are working out for them.

An AR-15 is designed for killing people a .223 / 5.56 AR-15 does maximum internal damage and tears the shit out of game meat. If you want to keep a semi auto AR-15 around for personal protection and property defense -- fine. A Mossberg 500 is a lot better for that -- not playing ''soldier'' with an overpriced weapon marketed toward play-solders. That is a military style weapon made for killing people -- not for game or varmint hunting.

It's just a dumbed down version of a M-16. No 3 round burst or full auto-fire.
Modern Sporting Rifle my ass.

A Mossberg 500 is a lot better for that -- not playing ''soldier'' with an overpriced weapon marketed toward play-solders. That is a military style weapon made for killing people -- not for game or varmint hunting.

.223/5.56 is VERY common for both mid-sized game and varmint hunting.

The AR-15, in various calibers, is one of if not THE most popular rifle among hog hunters in the U.S. It's also the #1 rifle used in 3-Gun competitions. I was hunting deer with one over 20 years ago.

Your opinions do not change the facts.

Limited editions guns violate second amendment. There should only be unlimited editions because it's interfering with my constitutional rights

I am not a gun guy and don't know anything about owning a gun. I've fired a .22 when I was a kid and a 12 Guage once (and only once, ouch), and fired a pistol a few times at a shooting range. Forgive me if I confused clips with magazines. There is no need to insult me or call me ignorant. This is just a discussion after all.

They don't even allow "regular guns" in Colorado movie theaters or schools....Look how well those laws are working out for them.
My point is, is that maybe these terrible crimes could have been prevented if it was harder to get guns, ammo and magazines for them. Just maybe.

I'm not obsessed with guns in America but I came across this and found it to be relevant:

Uber driver, licensed to carry gun, shoots gunman in Logan Square
