Anyone using Kodi.tv ?

I consider pulling the cable TV plug almost every day now. One of the services I keep hearing about it Kodi.tv. Anyone using them?

Yes sir! I've been using Kodi installed on my Amazon fire TV for the past 2 years and haven't looked back!

1 Channel, Genesis, and Phoenix are all you need for any show/netflix series.

Shouldn't be any issues at all. Takes about 20 minutes to get the amazon fire tv all setup. Youtube it and you'll be ready to rock in no time. If you're going to use the Amazon fire...make sure you get the box, not the stick. The box has a better processor and is much faster.

was thinking of getting one of these

Matricom G-Box Q Quad/Octo Core XBMC/Kodi Android TV Box: Amazon.ca: Electronics

though i guess you could just use kodi on a laptop and connect it to your tv.

There are repositories for live tv and sports. These are downloaded onto your box and called "add-ons"

My brother actually has an add on that allows him to get NHL pass with all the different camera angles and stuff. It's all open source so if you look hard enough you can find one that works.

What kind of box is required for this? A laptop? PC?
Is there a specific device necessary?

get the mini PC called Raspberry Pi from amazon or from their site : https://www.raspberrypi.org/ , it costs less then $40

then you install OpenElec, OpenElec comes with Kodi, it is very easy to install and you can connect your raspberry to any TV

In the Kodi application you go under the video section, then "add-ons" here you type in URL for app repositories. I highly suggest watching a youtube video on how to install/setup kodi. Any questions you have about it will be cleared up pretty quickly. Its much easier to see it vs. explain it.

It used to be XBMC which is why the folks who've never heard of it haven't heard of it. They just changed the name.

Just for information sake, here's what's listed as hardware platforms for Kodi

Devices - Kodi

There are likely more. I was hoping to see PS3/4 on that list.

I would get the PI2 since it has quad core. Same price I think. I have this running on 2 different PI's at home and they are awesome.

Any idea of when they will start supporting 4K? I still vote for amazon fire tv box...quad core, 2GB ram, 4k support, integrated remote, and no need to buy a case...unlike the PI

Check out: OpenELEC Mediacenter - OpenELEC Forum - H265 / HEVC support ??? (1/1)

They say it can handle some, but if you are looking for performance, then no.
