Jimmy Fallon is CRUSHING late night TV.

I finally got a chance to watch an episode since Leno left, and I found myself online watching clips from previous shows. Jimmy Fallon is by far the best host on The Tonight Show, and dare I say, better than Carson himself. I was never really a big fan of Fallon on SNL, but he definitely found his calling.

No other night show host can hold a candle. Him and John Oliver are killing it.

He's doing pretty good. It's funny because a lot of people hated him when he first started. https://gfy.com/fucking-around-and-pr...miserably.html

He is talented and I like when he plays games and has some great bits, but sometimes his interviews drive me crazy. He fake laughs and often interrupts and tries to make everything they are saying funny or interesting. He's getting better, but you can still see him doing it sometime.

Sorry, Jimmy Fallon is king. He changed late night TV.

The Tonight Show used to be comedians interviewing interesting people. They were funny, and they had their moments. But they were more or less stand up comedians. Funny for sure, but

Letterman tried to change late night TV, and to a large extent he did. But Jimmy Fallon is so much funnier.

Carson was "mom and dad" funny. The type of funny that as a kid, you knew was a little too raunchy for your ears, which made it even better. But this is today, and as an adult, when I watch Carson he seems a bit cheesy. And did someone really say Jack Paar? -- He was grandma and grandpa (maybe even great grandma and great grandpa) funny, Great Depression funny. He set the standard? For what, black and white TV?

Comedy has changed over time, and I'm not taking anything away from Carson, or even Paar. But if you go back and watch some of their clips, it's like watching an open mike session at an old folk's home. Cheesy funny, but not hilarious.

Well yeah cheesy, can't argue with that. But everybody had to start somewhere.

of course comedy has changed over time. but late night is about moments and Carson's tally of moments hasn't been surpassed.

to wit, certainly one of the most hilarious and incredible moments on television ever:

not saying fallon won't ever surpass Carson, he may, but he has a long career ahead of him to try and do that.

I agree that he does pretty well, one thing I DISlike, is everything is all about HIM with most of his guest interviews...I wanna watch the show for the guests, not him blabbing about himself to/with the guests.

It's impossible to compare the older host to newer hosts. Sensibilities change and with them so does entertainment. 30 years ago there were movies with special effects that were considered world class and amazing at the time. Now when we look back on them they look dated and cheesy.

Carson and Letterman were very important because they revolutionized the talk show and helped guide it to where it is today. Fallon is now reinventing it again with his viral videos, games with celebs and other things he does. To say that Fallon is better than Carson or Letterman is like saying an apple is better than an orange. They are different. Some prefer one, others prefer the other and some people like them both.

^^^^^ This.
You can 'do more' and get away with it on tv, etc, etc, also.

Agree. Fallon is awesome in that role. Carson was also amazing, but for a different generation.

This is very true. When Star Wars came out it rocked. Now it's old and dated.

I never liked Letterman, but he changed late night TV. Jimmy Fallon is doing it with his own twist. The difference is Jimmy Fallon is not only funny, but he can act. It's like watching a modern version of the Carol Burnett Show.

He is great at what he does but I still can't stand him. He got the job because he appeals to the lowest common denominator. To me he will always be the loser who almost ruined the cowbell skit by doing the "this skit is so funny I cannot stop from busting out laughing" bit.

Yes, Star Wars is old and dated. I am a huge Star Wars fan and already have tickets to opening night. Star Wars was amazing in the late 1970s, but the technology has come a long way since then. Look at what Marvel is doing; It's utterly amazing.

This new Star Wars seems to be on track to kick ass.

the simple facts that you claim you are a huge star wars fan and already have tickets to the next one proves the original isn't old and dated.

and the "technology" (i think you mean special effects) in the original don't detract in the least from the film. that's like saying the original would be better in fancy 3d.

plenty of movies and television stand the test of time and repeat viewings. star wars is one of them. seinfeld another. there are entire television stations dedicated to broadcasting old television shows like gilligan's island, hogan's heroes, i dream of jeanie...etc, and certainly old movies and that's because they stand the test of time.

it's like saying 2001: space odyssey is old and dated and interstellar replaces it. not at all.

i think it's absolutely awful, and the unfunniest 'comedy' show i have ever seen... it's really horrible. Including the over emotional crowd, makes me cringe.

Letterman was funny.
