Both the University President and Chancellor resigned because of the pressure. I'm afraid a precedent was set, one that will have a crippling effect on not only Academia, but society as a whole. Giving in to their demands was the worst decision they could have ever made. The reason the U.S. doesn't negotiate with terrorist is the belief it will create more terrorist, with loftier demands. And that's basically what just happened in Missouri.

If the football team didn't want to play, I would have started pulling scholarships and then we'd see how "Unified" they really were.

Mizzou football in Columbia is big big business. It is a major part of the University's income and funds many different things beyond athletics. The college stood to lose 1 million+ this week alone if the game was not played.




edited in: I forgot that this weeks game is at Arrowhead (Home of the Chiefs) here in Kansas City so a larger venue than usual (79000 at Arrowhead versus 71000 at Mizzou) and it is always a sell out when Mizzou plays here so that gave the football team that much more leverage.

I have always maintained a simple attitude towards this. If you don't want other people referring to you using a certain word, don't use that word to refer to yourself or others.
