How times have changed

I made way over 100K with this site. The only ones who saw it were paying customers that wanted to buy more VHS tapes
They were stacked 8 high and 8 wide making copies 24 hours a day.
We bought the panties from lingeriemart I think it was 1000 pairs at a time.
She would wear one pair in the video and sell 100 of the same pair for 100 each
Cost was 1.25 each so it was an ok profit HAAA
It snowballed after this but it was the start.
I didn't know anything about sites back in the day so a customer made the site for us and even edited it as we requested. I remember paying him with a lollypop she had in her pussy.
That was all he wanted

https://web.archive.org/web/20020726...stomvideo.com/

look and laugh but it was a fun time

We became the king of custom videos while doing this.

Got that right, I used a camcorder that took the whole VHS tape LOL, it was so heavy and I had to hold it with one hand and try to fuck her on a bed that moved on the tile floor with the dog chasing the fucking cat through the room all while staying in focus.
The quality sucked so bad too. People bought anything with a naked girl on it.
There was no way to fuck shit up.

I think times are better than ever. Everyone is online 4-5 hours a day, and the complexity of server/cluster/db configurations grows every year. Those sites that look for HA or Global CDN need specialists now more then ever before

People paying v freeloaders, is the key factor. Not traffic.

Most online people are clueless about the money made before we started to give it away for free. Even when ratios were 1-100, the extra people couldn't replace the loss of 99% sales.

When Fabian quoted the turnover figures for Private, I realised how clueless most were about offline porn.

No point in crying over spilt milk, there was always going to be idiots trying to give away more than the next guy. How's Mindgeek doing porn wise?

You are kidding right? We are handling payments for over 50.0000 adult websites since 1998 so we know a bit what the numbers are and what they where in the past..

Did you even read past the first 5 Words? You still think the only way to make Money is for someone to buy a membership?

I dont know about your stats, but if I look at CCbill (cwie) and most others in that line of business, their profit and Total Assets are still growing, and not slowing Down.

No doubt Dating, Toys and Webcam are still going well. Some of the big sites have picked up some of the paying members from those closed. But, there's no getting away from the fact that around 1 billion logs into a free tube and convert at around 1-50,000 or worse. Number as an example.

This is lost potential customers. People who once had to buy. To claim none of them ever did isn't an answer. Brian like I know what the turnover was back in the day. We can all see the mainstay of porn, films and images, dwindling.

Can you point us to the audited accounts of the processing companies?

You are STILL only looking at membership sales. Are you both stuck on stupid?

I am talking about those that still make Money (not hobbyists like you). They need specialists, and that is why Things are better than ever.

Edit: and to reply to your 1:50000 ratio statement. Yes, if you still promote like you did 10 years ago, you will convert at that ratio.
But there are still loads of people converting 1:1000 or better

If I get what you are saying, it is that there is more than one way to skin the proverbial cat and lots of people miss that fact, and you are correct! Just because "that is how we've always done it" doesn't mean it is the only way.

This thread was to just show the shitty site I had first and how much it made. Maybe even get some laughs.
Of course with anything shit changes. If not every person would be doing this. That is one reason it changes so much. I was the first ecig store in town. Now there are 6 and I am done.

Since you just called us hobbyists.. We would love to learn from a professional like you!! To be honest.. I bet that you have never set foot in a single studioâ?¦ And as soon as you have partnered together with over 1.000 merchants and you have the latest insights concerning the turnover of more than 50.000 websites for the last 18 years.. Please come back to me.. You don't know shit about the industry son..

But of course the turnover of payment processing companies is growing, we also see this.. Everything is becoming more professional and with all the huge camsites and all the other enormous corporations behind the (tube)sites with over 1.000 employees each, turnovers are higher than ever.. But what about the profits??

But you are missing the point of Brian here completely.. What he was saying is that you could make a huge profit back in the days by basically selling everything.. Since everything was still new..

I called Paul a hobbyist. But I guess you have the same mindset.

Brians point is EXACTLY the same as mine. If you want to make Money and keep growing, you need to stay ahead and always have whats new ... and that is why you are an employe.

And you are still missing the point. You live in the "we need to sell memberships" mindset. You are blind to the whole middleware, software, hosting, hardware, backbone, CDN industry, that need consultants and Experts. And that industry is booming.

LiveJasmins owner is one of the richest people in his country, CaveCreek makes more Money today (and profit) than they have ever done in history.

And I'm sure Verotel is happy about you talking about their struggle in public

So wise one, what are you doing in porn that is so wonderful? And don't reply you left porn, this is a porn board, a porn thread and about how thing have changed in the porn video business.

As Brian points out back before the Internet decided to give it away, VHS videos were making more than you can dream of. It's not about who makes more than they ever did, who's the richest man in some backwater, or how many sites they process for. It's about an industry that has declined.

All we can judge by is the number of people relying on it for an income, and their apparent success. As no processing company issues audited reports and that only tells their turnover, not how much the porn sites make.

As for me being a hobbyist. Yes after 35 years in the porn business I retired with enough money at 58 to be a hobbyist.

Quote:

How much of that is about porn? Driving a van of bread full of bread doesn't make you a baker. We all know the Internet is booming, more sales are done online every day. It continues to grow and break records. While the porn business shrinks.

Consumption of porn is through the roof, compared to when I was selling VHS videos via mail order consumption figures are astronomic. The difference is I sold 3 scenes on tape for $35.

We have moved on to giving away 40,000 views for $30. So people can sell traffic at $3 per 1,000 clicks.

I think Mike is saying that as they have been in the processing business so long. They know the state of the business.

The number of sites is irrelevant. The top site take could take more than the 1,000 bottom sites.

As for sharing real info, that will never happen. Like the OP will never tell us what he makes so much money from, in porn.

can´t see why this site was making so much money and yet the design and what was set up on it was changed so often...

when something´s not broke, you don´t try fix it

oh, and i´ve been filming custom vids for my fans since 2005, this is what sells and this is what makes the money...

I film custom vids for my fans, inc. in the price of their pass, this giving a high retention ratio which is always good for affiliates

The big money was in retail, selling the finished product to the end user. This is what on line does today and trying to replace all the shops, mail order, even newsagents that sold softcore.

Never going to happen.

There may of been a few times online got close to that turnover but only close. The sad thing is how long it lasted. Now the porn industry recommends a newbie start up to go to Clips4Sale and other such sites to break even.

Today that's true for sites like yours. For the mainstream and in days gone by the big money is in producing content with a broad appeal.

When Fabian quoted the turnover figures for Private, I realised how clueless most were about offline porn.

No point in crying over spilt milk, there was always going to be idiots trying to give away more than the next guy. How's Mindgeek doing porn wise?
Where can we see those turnovers from Private that you mention?
