was predicted to be our reality by some thinkers in the 90s. they were right, just 20-some odd years too early.

I still can't see VR being the next big thing unless they fix it a lot. Doesn't it give you headaches if you watch it for a longtime or is that a thing of the past?

It seems too nerdy to be accepted by the masses.

This image of Mark Zuckerberg says so much about our future | The Verge

A billionaire superman with a rictus grin, striding straight past human drones, tethered to machines and blinded to reality by blinking plastic masks. Golden light shines down on the man as he strides past his subjects, cast in gloom, toward a stage where he will accept their adulation.

LOL at people who have zero yet laugh at Zuckerberg who's worth billions. LOL again at people who laugh at VR without even trying it for themselves.

From someone who has tried it, me, and who owns an Oculus rift, me: It's cool! It's not perfect but it works really well. You need a FAST computer to use it properly and for fast and accurate tracking but otherwise its impressive especially for something that is so new. Future versions will have lots of new improvements and features as prices drop.

Will it really take off? Will it really be the next big thing? Maybe. The potential is there, and as an adult business owner, you owe it to yourself to invest a little cash and explore what new tech can do for you. If you sit on your hands and ignore it, you might be cheating your business.

LOL at you.

there is no stupid, ridiculous and dehumanizing technology you don't think is "geeky" and "cool."

you can go ahead a trade reality for a simulation. that is your choice.

after all some people prefer to be sheep to be sheared.

that is their choice.

That is what I mean. VR has a long way to go before it is great for the masses and not just a few. I love my 3D tv and 3D blu rays but some never got into 3D cause of the motion sickness of the past 3D. I see VR the same way. If it's not a great experience for most right from the start it prolly won't take off more than a toy for the rich nerdy type.

Donald Trump, Koch brothers, Rupert Murdochâ?¦ should I continue?

Zuck gets plenty wrong and even he would admit that. It's a dynamic world with a whole lot of misses and the occasional hit. Putting him on a pedestal as an all-knowing God is very dangerous.

I had a doctor appointment today and they had a student nurse tagging along. When the student had left the room I asked the regular nurse if training new people is hard. She said they have a good system, but all the new nurses that are on the younger side can't believe when they are not allowed to take their phones with them when they see patients and are working. She told me they had to make the rule when they were working on a patient once and the student nurse wasn't doing her job of handing them supplies. They looked over adn she was checking her phone.

The only thing I see as ODD in the photo is that...

those folks that are in the audience with their GearVR on are watching a LIVE 360 STREAMING VIDEO of the event they are at !

Mobile World Conference in Spain.

Can't wait till someone re-makes the movie Video-Drome for VR/360. They did try to ban it more than once.

I quite agree.
After some testing, I think that there's more potential in AR than in VR.
Augmented reality, being more "practical", could be used nearly everywhere/anytime... with final effect being the same as the one expected in VR.
I'm looking forward trying Microsoft's Hololens ;).

ok now..

i've been bumping into this image repeatedly in the past few days with accompanying walls of text or just coelho-esque sighs about "this is what we have became" "zuckerberg evil" "orwell was right" and other shit.

i fail to see what the big deal is. when i look at this picture, i have an impression of the fact that we live in a time when VR unexplainably kicks off again with now-decent qualities (ie. not sucking hobo ass like in the 90s), and a rich entrepreneur - ethics of his social network's data mining aside - gives a demonstration of which a VR headset is a vital part, and walks past the masses while they look at something. Probably i'm wrong since i know nothing about the context of this photo - just as the naysayers who immediately cry out the end of all humanity by this photo. for one, i am glad when i have a chance to test out modern VR stuff.

am i automatically becoming "sheeple" when i put on a VR headset? do i lost my integrity and free will once i don an oculus rift and i miraculously become a mindwashed corporate-branded robot by looking around in a simulated 3d rollercoaster demo for 3 minutes?

guess i'll never know

Honestly, it's just creepy, but at the same time, I don't see what's the big fuss about this photo. The dude is just smiling and walking, while others are sitting with the VR equipment...
Probably the main reason why Mark isn't wearing VR is because he wouldn't be able to walk properly. :D

What is actually going on, is that Mark is 'sneaking in' to make a surprise appearance at a VR demo of his product...

He is grinning because no one knows he is there and is looking forward to surprising the audience when they remove the rifts...

Not creepy at all...

Is there a demand for it? Of course there is.
Will some make a killing off it? Absolutely.

But sit in any doctor's office today and watch all the people sitting there mindlessly staring down at their so-called 'smart' phones. Or mall, or on a subway or bus. Anywhere where people are sitting in groups. To me there's very little difference.

Well, except for one...

Imagine you're in a wheelchair. You're disabled in some way. Or you're just someone who isn't one of the "beautiful people", your job sucks, you have no game with the opposite sex, and you suck at life. Then along comes VR, and you have a shot at immersing yourself into a whole new universe complete with a whole new persona, new life of adventure, new prospects, everything you ever dreamed of and more.

And that just covers those types of people. Ones who would be laughed at by you jokers anyway. Let's not mention all those so-called 'beautiful people' who will buy and use the same technology. Because the fact is a lot of those types hate their lives too.

Am I saying you have to hate your life to use VR? No. I'm saying that based on that alone there is a huge demand. There will also be a shit-ton of people who'll use it as an escape, just like they do now with computer and console games.

In other words I'm really on the fence as to just how much ridicule I want to throw at these "sheeple". We've been getting fleeced in one way or another, every one of us, for our entire lives whether anyone wants to admit it or not. The next big operating system when the previous one was fine. Overpriced coffee makers when the older ones do the same damn thing for a 50th of the price. etc etc.

Newer, faster, bigger, smaller, lighter, smarter, better. Words we all live and die by, for everything.

I for one welcome our new VR overlords. Smart home, hot android wife, and VR life.

Can't get here soon enough.

shit that sounds sad as fuck. life will never get better if you're just suck behind these googles. these people might be better off killing themselves as they're basically dead living that kind of life anyways. imaginary life that exists for no one but yourself. makes me think of someone who just wants to get high all the time because they hate themselves or their life. escape for as long and as much as you can until it takes you.

these things could be cool for general entertainment but i can totally see how they will be abused by people and organizations, think clockwork orange. or 'deprogramming' the gay out of johnny by his ultra religious parents, etc.
