When there's a consensus that something is artistically superior (and Mad Max definitely falls into that category as the best reviewed movie of the year) then the people who hate it are not some lone rebel group of geniuses. A movie needs to engage, whether its through visuals or story. Mad Max has a narrative and plenty of subtext, you just can't see it because gums aren't flapping.
