Who here is a Free Mason or has a relative who is?

If so what is it like? Everything written about them seems to be third hand and much of it conspiracy fantasy. Has no journalist or documentary filmmaker ever infiltrated the Masons and told/shown the truth of what goes on?

My father was (?is) - From what I can gather it's just a boys club, most of the time they sit around drinking and laughing at the conspiracy theories...

In the past it was taken more seriously, but not these days - I suspect there are other, scarier groups out there still though.....

Did you know Joseph Smith was a freemason before starting the LDS movement? I've heard they share some of the secret handshakes. etc..

Yeah reading about it now, Smith stole a lot from the Masons, plagiarisms that Smith claimed were written in the sacred scriptures he 'found' directly lifted from Freemasons as well as rituals/ceremonies.

Captain Morgan and the Masonic Influence in Mormonism

It's incredible that there are people who are very high functioning and accomplished,in every walk of life who are Mormons. Mitt Romney, was almost the President of the United States.

Masonry is an odd relic from the past that a certain type of white guy is drawn to and enjoys, like guys who take part in Civil War battle re-enactments, history and tradition nerds. Mormonism is just batshit craziness, very similar to Scientology.

I have a friend who's a "mason" although he doesnt really go by the name. His uncles are also masons. The way he described it is basically a get together of pretty normal people.

Basically there is an exchange offer of services where you're "supposed" to help your fellow masons out with your main skillset (which basically no one does)

He said the people there in general are utterly useless. That its basically people with to much time on their hands trying to free load and feel important.

I think years and years ago it was way different. In times where knowledge was suppressed. Now in this day and age especially with the internet knowledge is readily available. So now you just get run of the mill local guys attenting for a club atmosphere.

I love free masons. Every time I have a building project I can get it done much more cheaply when I bring in free mason instead of a paid mason.

It really is amazing how much misinformation exists regarding freemasonry, the idea that they are racist is so far from actuality as to be retarded. Even Freemasons don't grasp the depths of meaning and purpose until they reach the more learned levels and very few are dedicated enough to pursue the level of 33rd degree.

It is easy to create conspiracy theories around a group that doesn't defend itself or even generally acknowledge membership except to each other.

Freemasonry is an honor and is unbound by religious ideology, social status or race it is loosely bound by sex in that females have their own group called The Order of The Eastern Star.

I went to a meeting as I wanted to join. It's a bunch of really old guys, they sit around and talk. Really not what it probably was years and years ago. They asked if I wanted to join but I never went back.

Same here
My dad was at some point.

From what I gathered, it's mostly discussion groups with a bit of lobbying.
They are very likely not controlling the CIA or NSA.

You cant just join...you have to be nominated and accepted then you must go through the acceptance process until you reach the rank of Master Mason, the 3rd degree.

No, but I've read "Thinking and Destiny", which is supposed to be like their "Bible". It's a tough ass book to read, but really interesting. Better have a dictionary handy when you read it. When it goes into projecting, and information aboutt your Triune Self, shit gets real.

Uh...No.

1: Their meetings are not open to the public. You must be a member to attend.

2: "2 Be 1 Ask 1" means they are not allowed to ask you to join.

The Masons recruited me heavily coming out of high school. I was a blue chip prospect. I eventually declined and went with the Skull and Bones. Their boosters offered more incentives. Never went pro, but made some solid contacts.

When I was 20 I had a friend in my english class who was older and worked for the government. I told him I was writing screenplays and threw in some of my conspiracy stories and "fiction" storylines. He never revealed himself as a mason but always teased been one. He told me that masons don't reveal themselves as masons to on-members. So he asked me if I would join them, but only to say yes if I were ok to be formally invited.

I said no. He said it would be useful for me, but my reply was that I don't wanna join a club that would end up owning me, so thanks but no thanks.

Dude, it may have been like that in the past and maybe it is like that in some chapters, but where I live it's clearly a dying old men's club. At the end of a lunch, which I was invited to attend and my ticket was paid for by the ''sponsor'' (some old guy who got my email inquiry) I was handed an envelope with an application and some more information. Maybe I would have to be vetted or something but the impression I got was that they need fresh members and don't say no to really anyone. I was unimpressed and felt far out of my element because they were all in their late 50's and 60's so I decided to go no further.

It wasn't a secret meeting it was a lunch they had and asked some other members to be speakers, the speakers were businessmen and they talked about their companies and how they began etc..

He didn't say ''hey you join now?'' he asked if I was interested in joining and handed me the envelope. Seriously I donno why you defending this so hard, do you want to pretend its exclusive? Because where I live it really isn't in fact it was pretty sad state of affairs from what I saw.

In most places it's a dying old man's club. No doubt about that. I'm not pretending anything. You said you went to one of their meetings. Now you've changed that to you going to lunch after initially contacting them through email. Neither of those things are how you represented the situation in your previous post.

Yeah, I donno I thought it was a Mason event don't know enough to know that there is a difference. It was Mason lunch and the guy I contacted invited me and paid for my plate. If there is a difference my mistake.

Yeah, I donno I thought it was a Mason event don't know enough to know that there is a difference. It was Mason lunch and the guy I contacted invited me and paid for my plate. If there is a difference my mistake.

Yeah, there's definitely a difference. Thanks for the clarification though. It's all good.

This says it all to a tee

I had my Senior Prom at the Shriner's International Headquarters banquet hall in Tampa. It was really nice, but we were only allowed in the banquet hall. From my understanding, all Shriners are Free Masons. They do a lot for the community, and have a Shriners Hospital for Children here in Tampa.

There was a Free Mason group in my suburb and they ran out of money somehow, then they said "Hey, someone be nice and buy our building that we meet at for $1mil, but be nice and let us still use it."
Everyone laughed and now they just meet at someone's house down the street.

My grandfather was a Mason. My great uncle was a 33rd degree. My grandmother was a Worthy Matron at the local level, and did some state stuff that I don't remember much about.

I was a Job's Daughter.
