Last known VCR maker stops production

Funai stopped the production. What is most interesting - 750.000 units were sold last year alone. Not too shabby for a single company!
Of course, they told, it was also getting harder to source components...

Blast from the past, nostalgic

stock up on them, then resell for 500% profit couple of years later when you are the only one still selling them?

I am curious about the buyer profile of those 750K units

It's time to tell people who still want VCRs to go a suck a dick. Same goes for morons who haven't upgraded to HDTV yet.

I made video recordings on 8mm-to-VHS throughout the 80s and 90s...thousands of hours of footage. Friends, families, events, parties...people who are no longer with us - except on video.

I can perfectly understand legit reasons for people still needing a VCR - transfering old footage to DVD or external storage drives. We bought one not long ago just for that reason. Slow and tedious, of course. But that was the medium back in the day...like it or not.

I was in Nebraska Furniture Mart yesterday and they have 3 different VHS <> DVD player/recorders. There's 10-20 years left of people, children, grandchildren that want to old film, VHS & DVDs to new technology.

Got extra time? Get on CraigsList & FaceBook local groups and and offer the service at a reasonable price. You won't get rich, but hey, extra beer money.

This isn't good news for Paul Markham.

He's only just got over Super 8 film being overtaken by video

It would be interesting to know how many firms still use VHS for there security films.

A few years ago a firm got broke into.

They looked at the VHS recording and it was blank.

When I say blank, it hard worn all the black stuff on the tape away as they had only ever used one tape, over and over and over for years.
