Company Owners & Epoch's "PERIODIC REVIEW"

Hope everyone is doing well.

I wanted to know how many times does Epoch techs contact your company a year and ask to do a "periodic review" of your websites? I mean, wtf...they are asking for site access over and over to the same site. Some are 20 years old and I told them that they don't even update anymore...lol.

I can't be the only one complaining about it. This is how many times they've contacted me this year alone requesting a "periodic review"

March 16, 2017
March 22, 2017
May 08, 2017
July 15, 2017
August 07, 2017
September 20, 2017
October 5, 2017
October 12, 2017
November 08,2017

These are not all for the same sites but many of them repeat. I could see if they were consistent. Like once a year or something but it's random and often. If they're doing this to all their clients then they must not have many clients. Its a complete waste of time. Just sayin'.

Here is one of their "waste of time emails". I've heard it before. It's not VISA or MC checking the sites, that would be different. No way would they check that many times a month! Again, waste of time!

BEGIN EMAIL:
Hello Ed,

As you may know, the card associations (like Visa and MasterCard) hire independent professional services to check the content of all sites that process transactions, for potential violations of their rules. Therefore in order to keep you safe, Epoch regularly checks your sites too, to make sure there's nothing irregular that might jeopardize your ability to continue processing transactions.

Even if your sites no longer get updated, your sites will still need to be reviewed. Although not mandatory, we do suggest that you provide us a compliance login that remains active for our periodic reviews.

Your sales representative is Henry Rosa ([email protected]).

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Regards,
Alan
Epoch Support

END EMAIL.

About once a year for us though they login a bit more often than that (and often create new usernames each time while leaving the old ones just sitting there...ugh).

Epoch definitely is one of the stricter IPSPs when it comes to content checks.
Others on GFY have said it is possible because of their Paypal deal.

Correct.

Ed, don't forget that they are taking a risk in processing for you, just like they are taking risks processing for everyone else.

If they didn't do this review and some other website was caught by their processing bank breaking the rules, Epoch might not be able to process anymore, which means YOU might not be able to process anymore.

I've been in business a while like you have and I've seen a few payment processors go down in flames, creating chaos for their customers. You probably know their names.

I know its a pain in the ass, but let them do their review, answer all their questions, provide all the docs they need, etc. Doing it as fast as possible reduces your own headache and lets you get back to work.

Some people find the most unusual things to complain about.

This is to keep Epoch safe and minimize their risk from rogue accounts, they aren't "keeping us safe" Anytime you have to go through hoops for a corporation, it's for their benefit not yours.

Trickle down benefits.
Tho that sounds like a pee site and I don't think Epoch allows that.

I disagree. They have to make sure that you are who you say you are. Scammers can try to change your account info at Epoch and have your sales diverted, etc.

Of course they are protecting themselves, but they are protecting you too. If they can't process, or can't pay you, your business suffers.

You don't want to wait and let Visa and MC be the one to find the violations.

They send out automated emails without checking if the last login/password works. Which gives you an indication of their business.

Are you saying that he is a "scammer" ... The OP is an established webmaster, this is just a plain overkill...

Anybody here from Epoch??? Maybe they should comment. Verotel is just as established as Epoch and yes, initially they have put us "thru the ringer" ( back in 2006) as expected, but since they have not bothered us.

Is that seriously what you took from what Mark said? If so, you're a dunce!

Exactly. No one makes rules to keep you safe. Rules are self serving. Always.
