Top 10 predictions If teachers are allowed to have guns :

1. Teachers can't be fired on the spot because they have to be disarmed first

2. Stupid teacher will get caught with a stolen gun

3. Teachers will pull out their guns and scare the kids whenever a crappy car backfires

4. Thugs will break into all the teachers cars hoping to find a gun.

5. Dumb teacher will place purse holding gun on heater unit which causes the bullets to fire.

6. Angry teachers will go home and shoot their families

7. A teachers gun inside her purse will accidentally discharge and kill a student.

8. A teacher who is accused of having sex with a underage student will commit suicide in front of the students.

9. The gym teacher will shoot the science teacher for fucking his wife who is an English teacher.

in many rural areas yes however the gun nuts prefer the urban or rural because, well.... the rural guys have guns... I've had opportunities to be involved with guns my whole life. to me guns are boring like playing pool. I do have a gun for self protection. I had to take it out once.

I understand that people in school need to protect themselves! But can you trust people and think that all weapons owners are "safe" enough and will never suddenly become mad, knowing that there are so many kids to who it happens ?

As for guarding schools, where is the money going to come from? Government has been cutting school funding and many districts are in trouble. I know, they can hire betsy devos brother's private contractors....They will find the money for that, but not for education

Guns in schools is a quick fix to a long-term problem. Yes for the time being it makes sense to have highly trained ex-combat soldiers who have proven their ability to use a gun or highly trained police in schools. Along with locking down schools so nobody can enter with a gun or shoot through windows.

Not teachers as no one knows how they will react when faced with an assailant. And most certainly no one with handguns. As most shooters use semi-automatic weapons.

The cost can be born by gun buyers with an extra tax put on firearms sales. Not the general public as they don't cause the problems.

However, that will just move the problems to other areas, malls, stadiums, clubs, hotels, etc.

The long-term solution is to cut down on the supply of guns. Cut out the sale of high powered, semi-automatics, large magazines, bullets, etc.

When I was in highschool...the students had rifles in the window racks of their trucks in the parking lot. My math teacher Mr. Elliot openly carried a gun. As did the Principal of the highschool.

I don't know how many other teachers kept guns in their desks, etc.

I do know that a lot of students (including myself) carried pocket knives.

NONE of the things you said ever happened.
There were NO shootings at my school. There were no stabbings.

I graduated in 1979. Kids back then in small towns were raised with guns and knew how to handle them and respected what they could do.

These days? I think society has a problem. I don't know if it's caused by video games, or the media "glorifying" mass shooters and making them famous, or if it's an unintended consequence of gun control advocates (usually the fastest way to get someone to do anything is to tell them they can't)...but whatever it is, we need to figure it out quick.

I had a teacher that carried a gun as well, we had rifles in our cars and trucks and I graduated in 78. Now the dems are declaring schools a gun free zone and see how well that's doing? They have a problem with school shootings, yet during the administration of Obama, school shootings increased ten fold.

Bump stocks were made legal under the Obama administration.

I have zero problems with better back ground checks, but lets get the system to actually work first, which has been the case with this last big shooting. And maybe some cops with a pair that isn't a fucking coward!

I raised my daughter is a small school district, many people in the area have carry permits because the local sheriffs know that is a deterrent to crime. I never worries about a school shooting because I saw the principal at the gun range on a regular basis.

None did. But they were available. Hell in the 1930's people had machine guns all over the country (REAL machine guns...not bump stocks). The mafia gangsters used them in firefights with the FBI.

The point is...you have no point. I'm saying I think we should IMMEDIATELY harden up the schools so they are no longer "soft targets".

There are two ways to do that:
1. With armed "guards" all over the schools.
I don't like that idea for two reasons: It would make the school feel like a war zone and the guards have no "skin in the game" and don't really care about the kids.
OR
2. Have select teachers conceal carry.

Either way is better than the NOTHING that has been done for decades by Democrats and Republicans.

Nobody has a solution for 'right now'. All we have is what can be done as soon as possible. No faculty in the nation has enough staff capable of handling arms no less in that kind of environment so I'm hoping that is not what you are implying.

Have 5 teachers trained and armed in every school, stop schools from being soft targets.

Every proposal I have seen has the guns kept in a secure locations) with finger print access so everything you mentioned that involved a purse, a stolen gun. pulling out a gun when a cra backfires, etc is just fear mongering...Ive said it before and I will say it again this is a public health issue NOT a gun control issue and until it is addressed as such nothing meaningful is going to come of it it really is that simple.

My big worries:

1. Some scared teacher is going to accidentally shoot and seriously hurt or kill some innocent kid and then the teacher, the school, the school district, the city and anyone and everyone who has anything to do with the idea of this teacher carrying a gun at school is going to be sued into oblivion.

2. This suit (or multiple suits if it happens multiple times) could seriously damage the ability of the school to do its job, but more importantly, it could cause people to stop wanting to become a teacher because they don't want to work with armed co-workers or in places where shootings might happen.

So we could find ourselves with a weakened school system that has more and more trouble getting qualified teachers.

Just my opinion.
