Dr. Drew Pinsky warns about the health effects of the homelessness epidemic in Los Angeles in an interview with FNC's Laura Ingraham. Pinsky, a board certified internist, called the L.A. city government "disgustingly negligent" and said they are not addressing the issue correctly.

The government believes housing is the problem but Pinsky said there is rampant mental illness and drug addiction among the homeless and they aren't interested in housing.

DR. DREW PINSKY: We have complete breakdown of the basic needs of civilization in Los Angeles right now. We have the three prongs of airborne diseases, tuberculous is exploding, rodent fleas. We are one of the only major cities in the country that does not have a rodent control program. Sanitation has broken down. We had a typhus outbreak last year, we will have typhus this summer. I'm hearing from experts that bubonic plague is likely, it's already here, it will get onto the rat fleas. And then now finally we have this oral-fecal route contamination which is tyhpoid fever. Three cases. One confirmed, probably three. This is unbelievable.

I can't believe I live in a city where -- this is not third-world, this is Medieval. Third-world countries are insulted if they are accused of being like this. No city on earth tolerates on this. The entire population is at risk. And God forbid is measles. This is a population that's suboptimally immunized. If measles gets in, I just have an image of myself on my knees in the gutter tending to people.

The illegal immigrants in detention centres are in there by there own choice. The US didn't force them to migrate illegally and doesn't keep them in detention centres out of spite, they can all go home, They're in the detention centres by their choice, they are separated from their children by their choice. They didn't have to migrate to America with their children and don't have to have children while in the US.

Illegal immigrants have broken the law. Should all lawbreakers get a break because prisons are horrible or because they have children?

You can't keep using the argument "the other side do this wrong" as an excuse to not do anything. Stopping the huge problem of what Americans pay for health care is a problem both sides fail to address. Workers rights are more reliant on the balance between unemployed vs jobs vacant and the quality of jobs. Any law based purely on race, gender, creed, needs to be examined closely. This debate is about illegal immigrants in detention centres and the diseases illegal immigrants can bring into the country. It has nothing to do with race and any suggestion that it does is wrong.
