US Postal Service

Today I got a check in the mail, two weeks late, enclosed in a little plastic bag saying "The enclosed has been damaged in handling... blah blah blah". Basically some shit about a mechanical error or whatever.

Now, inside the bag I find a neatly opened envelope with the check itself inside, and the specification very neatly separated from the check - all stapled together.

How the hell was that a mechanical error? Someone just opened the damn thing, looked inside, for some dumb reason stapled the bunch together and left it on his desk for two weeks (customs or something of the sort probably). Plain and clear to see for anyone. So why the lame excuse about a system malfunction?

when mechanical errors happen you are lucky your mail wasn't ripped to shreds.

they put it back together after they find it on the floor ripped from the conveyor belt or however its carried.

be glad they sealed it for you.

ive gotten envelopes WITHOUT the contents, same apology.

mechanical error, lost contents. no money involved.

things happen, do you expect hands to go through all the mail one by one? machines are by far imperfect.

i know some people that work in publishing and bindery, and do some of the stuff for the mail service. i hear stories.

more likely than the machine fuckups, it's operator malfunction. why do a good job with something you don't give a flying fuck about? why not push the machines when you get an extra $3.00 if 200 more envelopes push through that hour.

You don't get it - yes, errors can happen, and do happen. Ofcourse. However, in this case it is completely clear that it wasn't an error. No damages whatsoever, except for what would be done by a very careful person opening the letter and detaching the specification from the check.

Apparently, patriotism makes people paranoid.
This has nothing to do with my opinion on the US. I just find it odd that letters are opened by the postal service and that instead of admitting that, they come up with a lame excuse such as this.

In the past few months I have had the worst experiences with the postal service. Not only did I have trouble getting my mail while I was moving, I have been moved for three months now, and am still not getting all of my mail. And I did all the standard procedures for change of address and all of that. But, I mailed my Aunt her wallet to Arizona, sealed and stapled in an envelope. She received it like 2 weeks later, envelope neatly opened the wallet inside and all, but missing was her id and aTM card, obiviously the work of a postal worker.

In an envelope, stapled together you sent a wallet with your moms ID and ATM card? Dont blame the mail people, blame yourself. If you cant take the proper precautions to mail something valuable dont bother complaining.

you could have easily sent that, with 'delivery confirmation with signature required.' - it would have arrived fine.

i do it all the time with large checks and even cash and never lost one.

I dont know why people mail things without any care then when something happens they think that 33 cents postage was enough.

Ever heard of postal insurance?

cents on the dollar of value, easily purchased.

try it next time you send something of value.

;)

There was delivery conf., and insurance, everything was taken care of, and actually the dumbass used the ATM card two doors down from the post office it was going to in Arizona. Im just stating the point, that it was an organizer type wallet, brand new, actually a Xmas present.
This all happened in the first two weeks after Xmas.
She forgot the wallet when she flew home, the damn thing still had tags on it, so in order for someone to know what was inside they had to open it all the way up., oh yeah, and pay attention smart ass, it was my Aunt!
