electric cars

seems like there is an issue with charging, takes 15-30 min. 1 guy with an 'electric station' charges $2.50 + $.02 per minute.... 30 min charge $8.50? I looked it up online, ev stations make no profit or if they do it's a very small profit 50% of the time.

https://www.utilitydive.com/news/nea...report/561026/

how do you figure this work for the future of electric cars and trucks? not only that electric cars take 1/2 the work force to manufacturer, less parts.... so 1/2 the auto industry will be out of work and no network of reliable charging.... going to be interesting that's for sure

Most gas stations where I live sell gas at almost at cost, make a profit with the convenience stations and car washes etc. Since evs take longer to charge this idea should work even better.

Power will be free, as well charging. My local grocery store has free charging. They get their power from solar, it costs them nothing, and it's free to their customers - it helps pull customers in.

Natural Gas is the way to go!

There's no spyware of the electric car and it's just as fast to fill up as gas and it's disgustingly cheap.

Plus you can convert any car into a natural gas car.

so if you drive across country you'll stop every 200 miles and go shopping? driving to LA from you're place you'll stop at grapevine and start looking for free power?

just curious, have you ever seen a line at a gas station?

thanks for the great tip on a national solution for an electric power grid for electric cars

driving across the country is a very dated way to travel for most these days. flights are cheap. Also, any innovation doesn't happen over night. infrastructure for new tech takes time. Do you believe gas stations just appeared across the nation in a few months when cars started being made? Do you think highways were a thing when cars first came around? how affordable and practical were gas powered cars at first?

Things get better and more practical with time and necessity.

I have two electric cars. One is a Volt, so it does use gas....sometimes. But it gets about 225 mpg with my type of driving. I am done with gasoline.

I can drive across the country. I just would have to use gas on the highway and electric in the city. Probably would only get about 125 mpg.

The batteries are problematic as well, as they're toxic and if they end up in a landfill, it poisons the water table.

Hydrogen will alleviate all of that and be more efficient, but there's been no significant investment in it.

not to mention foreign relationship issues. the exotic metals in battery's all come from 3rd world countries. and the new charging tech that's faster kills a battery after 60 cycles I just read.

The new gas stations will be charging stations. You park your car and go get something to eat, do some shopping. Tesla already has a charging station on the Grapevine at Tejon Ranch.

Anyone can see where this is going.... The only question is what will state governmetns do with the missing revenue?

You guys have it all wrong. I get it on a long journey, but on your day to day, you never hit a "gas station". At the end of the day, I just plug in my cars and watch tv...or work . Sometimes I don't even charge them. So...when I do, where I live and hydro electric, non polluting electricity costs me about 50 cents a day, and I sit in traffic in total relaxing silence. No oil changes (oops the volt every three years), no fluids. The brakes last forever cause you hardly ever use them. Oh yeah, and the total satisfaction of driving by gas stations and not caring is priceless.

My wife's father was a mechanic all his life, turns 90 this month! great guy living life to the max... for 90.

Anyways, pop the bonnet on a new car, and he wouldn't even know where to start, presuming he could work out how to pop the hood in the first place.

mechanics and the job as a mechanic is FAR evolved from what it was 50 years ago, and in another 50 years it will be the same.

It's not an industry that "will" change, its been perpetually changing for years.

I'm absolutely Holier than you.. and 99% of the rest of the world.

Now I guarantee that you've never driven a car that can run on CNG and if you've never driven one then you obviously don't own one.

So you don't know fuck all about the subject.

The facts are that fill ups are cheap and if I buy a gassifier I can fill my tanks with gas made from garbage. Plus it's absolutely CLEAN exhaust.

Congrats!!

I've been driving a volt too since about 2014. My next car which I hope to get next spring will be fully electric. I'm done with Gasoline too and so is my spouse. She's eyeballing the Tesla Model 3 and I'm going to be so jealous if she buys one.

Maybe, but not everyone is adopting electric cars (nor is it always a good idea). Companies that provide electricity are preparing however which is why there is more sources of electricity now such as wind and solar than there was 10 years ago.

CNG = https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compressed_natural_gas

LPG (Propane) = https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquefied_petroleum_gas

one is compressed gas, the other is liquid, both are used for cars but not simultaneously

Volkswagen and a couple others sell CNG cars directly from factory, LPG is usually installed as a replacement for regular gasoline.

over here both are cheaper than gasoline and both have a better CO2 balance
